effects

Hey Justin
In all my days of playing bass, I admit to never having run my bass through any sort of box, pedal, or otherwise.

I feel like I need to take the dive into the world of bass effects. What, in your opinion, are a few crucial effects that no bassist should be without?

Thanks, as always, for the insight and inspiration.

Enough of your silliness! You really think that's going to fly in Justin's forum? The guy who uses a ton of effects and owns two or three of every pedal ever made?

:D

yes, but he uses them because to get X cool new sound, he needs Y pedal, bassists like Mark Hoppus, Jack Bruce, and many more don't really use pedals much, and tons of bassists use one or 2 specific pedals, but it's rarely the same kinds, ranging from chorus to fuzz to delay. some bassists just want to make a lot of weird sounds, they use lots of pedals. it's approach, not religion, you can agree with someone while following a different path.

kevbass5: There are no rules, but a good overdrive type sound might be a great start: SansAmp VT Bass, SansAmp GT2 for instance. Otherwise, there's a whole world of stuff open to you. If you want to get into effects, literally go to a cool store and try some out. NOT Guitar Center; something a bit more intimate would be more ideal. Your second pedal could be an octave, a chorus, a delay, an envelope filter, another fuzz/distortion type thing, a wah, a harmonizing type thing, a reverb, it goes on and on.
