EHX Enigma QBalls: Review

I'm buying the Moog as soon as I find a suitable deal on one but who knows, I might not need it now. Somehow I suspect that I will use the Enigma for more "normal" synth filter applications though.

I suppose it depends upon one's use for the Prometheus. The Prometheus is a slightly different animal. You might miss the Sample and Hold capabilities of the Prometheus. In addition, the Prometheus works well with guitar and keyboards, not just bass. The Prometheus is also battery-powered.

If you're looking for something to gig with, it appears that, like the Prometheus, the Enigma is also very sensitive and requires a lot of tweaking.

My philosophy is that one can never have too many envelope filters.

I tried an Enigma today. It's a lot harder to dial in a usable setting than I expected. Definitely not recommended in a live setting, unless you already have your presets mapped out. The distortion doesn't seem to be tweakable and not active as a stand alone effect. The distortion only seems to be active when the main effect is on (both switches active). I like my q-tron+ much better than this.

Oh, drat, I'm getting an Enigma Qballs! The GAS attack was so bad, that I couldn't sleep--I LOVE filters!!! Ordered the sucker online just before 2:00 AM (stores where I live don't have it, yet).

I'm interested in running a MXR Bass Octave Deluxe and Earthbound Audio Effects Supercollider through the Enigma Qballs with the distortion activated to see if the Enigma Qballs sounds synthy. I would be grateful for anyone who would like to share some knob settings for this synth-type experiment!

Thank you for bringing out my evil inner cheezy twin that will, doubtless, compel me to lose even more sleep experimenting with the Enigma Qballs.

I get kind of a Deep Impact-ish type of sound with these settings (at least in my opinion):

Blend: 10-11oclock (about 2/3rds Dry)
Mode: Band Pass
Attack: 8oclock
Decay: 9oclock
Start: 830-9oclock
Stop: 3oclock
Q: 1oclock
Sens: 1oclock

Just got my replacement Enigma after the first one died. The Enigma has absolutely great sounds...everything I expected from the QTron+, but didn't get. Little tweaks goes a long way on this pedal. For me, a very steep learning curve, definitely not plug and play. Although I did manage to find a very "BOOTSY" setting that I was not able to find in my old orig Mutron III (w/attached pwr cord), my BassIQ, Qtron+ or WMD FatMan. As long as it doesn't die on me again, it's a keeper.

But then again, I may get to test out the WMD Super FatMan here shortly...so we'll see how that goes, he makes killer effects.
