If a band couldn’t a deal with me having that as a sound sculpting tool, I don’t need to be in that band.

EHX POG III, oh yes please

Regarding the price, yes it’s a bit of a shock, but see the unit for what it is, a multi-effects of an entirely different structure. Compare the pricetag of what’s out there otherwise.

I think being priced between an H9 and an H90 is asking a lot for what the POG III does. Muti-effect? Yes, albeit one with a limited scope. But, the market will decide. I may pick one up when I find a used one under tree fiddy.
Tough to swallow when I can pickup a Line6 HX Stomp XL for nearly the same price.
I get that this will not appeal to a lot of bass players but there are a bunch of us interested in expanding and exploring sounds with our bass. If you look at folks pedal boards there are a lot of EHX POGs and HOGs as well as other pitch shifters.
I will agree on the Boss/Roland UI being a challenge to grok and be creative. But the SY200 has a huge potential of sounds and utility and tracks respectively IMHO.
Yes Boss pedals can do great stuff but using them is no fun unless you have a computer user mind. I don’t think digitally, I don’t learn languages that easily either. Just an analog 1 function/knob kinda guy.
My jazz fusion band keeps telling me to solo over tunes. I usually decline. This might be my chance for revenge, monkey's paw style.

I've had a Hog 2 for more years than I like to mention and I'm very familiar with it's unique features. The Pog III is kind of a Hog III lite....it seems to add a lot of the Hog 2's features (the amazing filter and expression options, Midi control and some of the sliders) to the Pog range.
It gains stereo, which is kind of nice. However I don't see the point of stereo on this type of effect panel. I tend to run mono with my octaves, compression, dirt and filters. I split out into Stereo (or Dual mono if there's no actual stereo happeneing) with my modulation and then through out the rest of my board. Delay and reverbs are all stereo / dual mono.
I'm sure the DSP is a bit better, the one in the Hog 2 is over 10 years old, but I've never found the Hog lacking. There's a bit of latency / lag, but this is cured by removing one's dry signal completely and using the pure -1 synth generated bass tone....basically, the latency between all the generated tones are then the same and it's really not noticable. Which says a lot about how our brains detect latency...or not!
It's a hefy price tag for something that is very similar in function and tone to the Hog 2...which I bought new for around £300 UKP. I'm not seeing a lot fo reasons here to sidegrade / downgrade other than it's new, red and shiney. Sure the improved USB / PC app is nice and better Midi implementation.
However, I loose my Original, +1&5th, +3 a,d the +4 sliders. I also loose the fantastic spectral gate.
I already have 120 presets and an LCD screen with my Hog 2 and optional foot switcher. Having them integrated would be nice, but loosing 21 patches?
Same familiar filter controls...some extra expression control options which are nice....but that's a not of cash for a loss of some features and not a lot of extra new ones.
I think I'd like to play one just to see if I'm missing something, but currently...I'm missing a whole dollop of wow factor that's missing from this panel.
Is there a Hog III coming down the line?
EHX has great pedals, but I had 2 pedals die on me without a reason, and I baby all my pedals, like, they are even dust free!!!
EHX used to maintain their own repair shop and they even restore decades old gear at a reasonable fee. I had several dead pedals from ages ago that had been deemed unrepairable by more than one competent tech and they were awesome getting them repaired at a nominal fee and returned and back in service for me. Some of those old pedals are worth a pretty penny these days. You might check with them.
This might work for you (I assume you live in the states), because I don't. And I'm not talking about the old pedals, I'm talking about the modern stuff.
I’ve been pretty underwhelmed by a lot of modern ehx pedals particularly the deluxe bass big muff which I had high expectations for and was disappointed, but to be fair the pog pedals have been an exception. I’m curious to see some bass demos. If it tracks as good or better than the bass whammy and can pull off some cello like sounds as good or better than the mel9 I might bite.
