electra basses

I have two, one is in the process of being refinished. The one below is my all time favorite P bass. It's been rewired and upgraded with a Nordy pup. I would put it up against ANY production P bass. The neck is awesome and really comes alive between the 12th and 20th fret like no other I've played.

A friend of mine had a westone bass years ago (which I believe was electra under a new name). Pretty nice for the price. Some of the late 70s early 80s MIJ stuff is great.

Any of the Matsumoku factory basses are worth grabbing if you can find them. Westone made a bass exactly like mine, they were painted black with a rosewood fretboard and black headstock. I prefer the Electra's but the build quality is identical. My Vantage P bass is keeper as well.

I have a pretty strong suspicion that my P copy is a Matumoko, although there is nothing that identifies it as such. It's a laguna, MIJ, based on the description I got, probably about a 1980. The one piece of evidence I do have is that it has an odd 2 piece fender headstock, which I have seen on some of their stuff.

You can post a pic on the Mat forum. Someone will speak up and provide info. It's a slow forum but lots of info.

Thanks so much! ALl I really know about the bass was that is branded Laguna and was imported by Dauphin of springfield IL sometime in the 80s (I got mine used in 89). I lived in springfield at the time, and that is the only place I have ever seen the brand.

Hi,
New to the forum. I just picked up a Electra X-630 Natural. Any info on them would be great. One site puts them in production between 1980-1984. Any thoughts as to what its worth. It's in great shape, straight neck and no dings. Thanks,
MS

For the most part, Electra's don't hold their value that well. They are excellent players and with a little work and maybe a few mods can be made into AWESOME players. They are rock solid, well made basses, probably the best bang for the buck on the used market, other than Peavey.

Your ealier post said that the Matsumoku's are worth grabbing. How do you know if it is a Matsumoku? When did the Logo's change? Mine has the Name Electra and the Logo Symbol, but no "Bird" or "Westone".

Many have Matsumoku on the neck plate but many dont. You need to spend some time reading on the Matsumoku forum. The factory made MANY brand names and model variations. Half the posts on the forum involve indentifying them!
