Electric Cigarettes

I find the FDA report very suspect. "This cheaper, less heavily taxed alternative to smoking is BAD, I know we're being deliberately vague with our research data.....but just take our word for it! We'll even throw you a buzz word....anti-freeze! You may as well drink the whole bottle as smoke one of these less heavily taxed alternatives!"

More importantly, thanks for telling us about your findings Uribam, I hope you keep reporting back, particularly when you get to the tobacco one, as a heavy smoker, I'd like to find out about these!

I'm with ya, Islander, but think we gotta compare the exposure levels the Electrics create to the MSDS levels for an informative comparison.

AND compare it to the alternative: cigarette smoking. I don't think the Electrics are good for you, but "less worse" is still worth considering.

I'm on the tobacco flavor now, they taste like menthol. I'm 100% positive it's because I didn't rinse/clean the atomizer after the menthol ones, so after I'm done with the cartridges I'm on now I'll do that and get back to you as I have been.
Thank you Hawaii Islander for all your information concerning questions. A man of science is always respected by me.

My original post stated exactly what you just said. The EPA reports on e-cigarettes was lacking in the detail needed to compare the two.

E-cigs do eliminate particulates and tars, which is a step up from traditional tobacco cigarettes. Useful for existing smokers.

I smoked 3 packs a day for 30 years, and quit 12 years ago today, on my birthday. This is just my opinion, but e-smokes for a smoker are like an alcoholic drinking near beer...who are you kidding? I had to just quit the damn things once and for all. I used prayer, the patch, and some drug, Zyban, I think...but the point is that tobacco is the most addictive thing I've ever done, and I've done pretty much all of it.
Get ready to quit, make a plan, and DO IT. Good luck. If I can quit, anyone can.

Not exactly. e-cigs do contain nicotine. And provide the sensation of smoking, without most of the harmful stuff.

but e-smokes for a smoker are like an alcoholic drinking near beer

Well, yeah. But maybe not in application.

The problem with near-beer (0.5% or 0.0%) for an alcoholic tends to be that it "reminds" them of real-beer & hence has them more likely to relapse.

I get people touting eCigs as like an in-office alternative or as a step towards quitting.

Premium, I applaud your victory over cigarettes and at doing so "cold turkey". But hey: if "lukewarm turkey" lets more people quit smoking, I think it's great.

I am a non smoker, and have heard great things about these in the media (OK Bubba the Love Sponge) and wonder since they are not creating smoke, can you use them in public places where smoking is banned?

Well, yes and no. The bans do not apply as there is no smoke, and no tobacco. Legally the answer to your question is yes. Now in the real world that's a bit different. If you're in a bar, let's just say for an example. You're sitting there and having a good time, whip out your ecig and have a few drags off it. First off the bartenders are going to immediately question you and it'll just be a big hassle. Furthermore you may get thrown out when you attempt to explain or argue your case. This isn't always the case, but it does happen quite often. That's sort of a reason I got the Blu brand, they don't light up red on the end so you can just say it's a nicotine inhaler or make up some bs story. So yes, and no.

My wife is hypersensitive to the smell of tobacco on breath, and she has yet to notice the e-cig smell on me.
Yeah, odorless. I smoke them at my desk at work. The first day I had them no one even had a clue I smoked there all day.

Well personally my friend, I didn't get them to quit. I knew what I was getting into with them. A big part of it is I have a kid on the way, and it seems careless to smoke tobacco cigarettes with a kid around. Also you'd be surprised at how much better you feel and act when you quit the tobacco even for the electric nicotine cigarette. You're losing a great deal of very bad things you're putting into your body because you're addicted to nicotine. I encourage people to quit as well, but I choose not to.

Uribam, what strength did you get and what did you normally smoke? My wife smokes light 100s and she's been talking about trying these.
For real cigarettes I smoked Camel Lights. Not the 100s. Naturally I got the light nicotine version of the cartridges. It's comperable to my Camels. If you smoke 100s, that's not really a problem except that you're going to consume the cartridges more often, as people who smoke 100s take more drags off a normal cigarette. Therefore more drags off the cartridge will reduce it's life, and you can expect lower battery life as well. The ones I use include a pack that looks just like a normal pack of cigarettes though. It's built pretty sturdy and has a battery in it. You can charge the pack so when your batteries die you can screw them into one of the holes and it will charge the battery for you right in your pocket, or on your desk. The pack also has a slot for your spare e-smoke that comes with the starter kit. You screw the battery into the atomizer and plug in the cartridge. The entire e-smoke fits in the hole while you keep the one you're using on a desk or in your pocket etc. There are also 5 short holes to store your cartridges for future use, and they will hold one of them with an atomizer plugged into it as well so when you're charging the battery you can keep the atomizer on your cartridge to keep it from drying up.

Sorry for the long post on the last one, but I hope you find it informational. One post after this to talk about tobacco flavor cartridges.

I lost one of my e-cigs yesterday, so now I have only one battery and atomizer. I wound up smoking a real cigarette while my battery was recharging and.....ouch. They hurt me now. Today at work I smoked nothing but my Blu's. My cartridge I was using ran out, so I rinsed it off while I was at work. Luckily for me, I work in a restaurant. Anyone who's worked in one knows we have VERY hot water in our establishments. Very hot water is good for rinsing off your atomizers, you should do this when you recieve them, and when you change flavors. Anyway, menthol was banished from the atomizer and I got the true flavor of the tobacco cartridge.

Can we say BAD TEA? That's what they taste like. They taste like that good sweet tea from the southern US, but without the sugar, and like someone took a dump in your tea. They're pretty terrible. Maybe other companies have better tasting tobacco flavor but this one sucks. I was much happier with the menthol, and I smoke regular cigarettes and not ever menthol.

I'll be back after I'm through these ones and on to either coffee, vanilla, or cherry flavors. Also to answer questions.

I am a non-smoker myself and smoke doesn't bother me, probably because playing in bars for a long time. I don't gig anymore, but I filled in as a favor to a band very recently. The drummer, my friend, needed to take a break between 7-8 songs and whole set was revolving around him (strategically placed acoustic songs). He was researching about e-cigarettes and I called him to tell about this thread. He told me to "thank you sincerely" :) So thanks man, sincerely... :D
