Electro-Harmonix Bass Big Muff

My BBM arrived today, can't wait to get this badboy home and try it out.... wuuuuuaaaahhhhahahahaha

Really suprised how small this thing is. I was expecting it to be the same size as the SMMH.

This could be a bad thing though... the main thing that put me off EHX pedals was the rediculous size of their enclosures.

Next up; XO Bass Micro Synth :hyper:

I have read this thread multipule times and watched all the videos in it. Just looking for different opinions.

Ah. Gotcha.

IME, while I haven't used the Bass Big Muff yet, I have used the Russian, USA, and Little Big Muffs. They all get "muddy" in a muffled way on lower tone settings, and "muddy" but abrasive on higher tone settings if the Sustain is cranked (and just abrasive if it's not).

IMO, the Big Muff is a naturally "muddy" pedal. Precision and definition just aren't Muff qualities, especially in comparison to some of the other fuzzes on the market (I can think of a few with tons of clarity, but sound NOTHING like the Big Muff). However, the Bass Big Muff seems to be more defined in general because it doesn't seem as capable of insane gain like the other Big Muffs are, and the Dry mode adds instant definition from your clean tone.

So... yes, it's less muddy than any other Big Muff because of the voicing and gain change as well as the Dry mode, but what's important to consider is if the Big Muff sound in general is what you're looking for, or if perhaps it's another fuzz flavor which may better suit you.

Or maybe not even fuzz at all...

You could spend eternity reading threads and listening to what other people do with it. Take the plunge!

IME, it can be muddy, dirty and over the top if you want with bass boost, or it can just add some almost transparent warmth in dry mode. Extremely versatile.

Also, when I said that when it's batteries died I would get a power supply, I didn't know that the battery it comes with only lasts a couple of hours....

Power supplies cost $$$, and that's what I use to buy more pedals. :D

What do you think is a better investment, a Swollen Pickle MkII or the bass big muff?

Investment: a term with several closely-related meanings in business management, finance and economics, related to saving or deferring consumption. An asset is usually purchased, or equivalently a deposit is made in a bank, in hopes of getting a future return or interest from it.

Umm neither?

Dude, do you have any idea how long that battery might've been in there?

I've had as many stock batteries last ages as I've had ones that died in mere minutes. Remember that they're bonuses - not requirements. :p

Here is a quick clip. First, I'm just using my Peavey Forum on the Duncan Quarter Pounder bridge jazz pickup. Then I kick in the Bass Big Muff and it's set with the toggle on dry and the volume at 1 oclock, tone at 1 oclock, and the sustain control at 10 oclock. Then I kick on the RC boost after the muff and the gain is at 9 oclock, level at noon, treble at 2 oclock, and bass at 11 oclock.

In my opinion, it adds a lot of sparkle, chunk, and clarity to the muff tones:
