Electro-Harmonix Bass Big Muff

True, but most non-Boss pedals are like that, especially in the boutique realm. :p

I'm starting to think this is just laziness. The word boutique is no longer being applied correctly, and the 'middle market' is actually what the majority of these pedals now fall into. Really high end stuff that is looking forward are solving these simplistic design decisions of the previous generation of pedals.

The general availability of things like 3pdt switches and large specialty electronic stores on the web has changed the state of the market in the last 15 years ;)

A comparison to a marketplace most people understand:

Tier 1: Target / Walmart
Tier 2: Mall Stores (Dillards, may company, etc)
Tier 3: Small upscale chains
Tier 4: Designer direct, Couture

A couple of tier 4 examples:

Whoops, I got off topic on a rant... THAT never happens.

Yes, you can plug it in. I also didn't read about needing anything special in that department in the "manual".

The battery is enclosed in the case with screws, which is stupid.

sweet for quite a while now my russian muff has been the ONLY pedal in my bored using batteries.....arrrggggg I just bought a fulltone mosfet, its aight at best kinda depressing no matter how I messed with it I couldnt get any thing sounding good, just a not quite muff w/out sustain. *** so ill be sending it back hopefully for this bad boy

Options for use with a battery are wasted on me! I would not use a battery for an effects pedal, unless I was desperate, i.e. at a show and my power supply failed and there were no others I could use.

Actually, I would probably just play without my pedals before I resorted to the battery.

and if there is no power supply input for an effect pedal of mine, I would make one.

I picked one up from Daddy's in Boston yesterday. They also have the Bass Blogger, Bass Metaphors, and Steel Leather. Unfortunately, there were too many obnoxious kids making noise in the store to get a feel for the Metaphors (which is what I was planning on buying), but I could tell right away that the BBM was sweet.

If the rain holds off, I'll be testing it out at an outdoor gig in Sudbury, MA. I know it won't be able to take the place of the Little Big Muff I use on some stuff, but I think it will be nice for when the LBM is too much.

My blackberry is a terrible camera. Looks like I need to clean my board though.

So I went back to Boston last week to visit family and friends and I stopped into my favorite shop. They happened to have the Bass Big Muff in stock so I tried it out and had to buy it on the spot.

Now that I've got it home and have tried it with my rig I love it even more. It's a fantastic fuzz for bass and the sustain knob is very useable under the 12 oclock range. My current favorite setting it sustain around ten oclock, tone around 1 oclock, and volume around 2 oclock, toggle in the middle position. It responds very well to rolling back the volume on the bass, too.

It's nice when people do video clips, but the ones that are out there don't do this pedal justice.

If anyone is looking for one, check out www.tonefactor.com I believe Brad will be getting more in stock, if he doesn't have some already.

Can someone tell me how the sound differs from the USA Big Muff Pi. I have the latter and as of lately i'm not happy with it at all. i just can't seem to get the effect i'm looking for without turning my tone to complete mud. i'd like to try the bass big muff but can't find it in stock anywhere near me. i listened to the sound clips that someone posted in the earlier pages but i never feel that i can fully trust the quality of the clips (no offense to anyone). any help would be appreciated!

Quick demo:

2 tracks, both with the same setting on the BBM:

Volume: 11ish
Tone: 1ish
Sustain: 12
Switch: dry

Straight into my Powerbook's line in to Logic Express 8, no edits or EQ etc.

Carvin LB76 in passive mode, old Hi Beams.

Apologies for the GSM interference noise.
