Electro-Harmonix Bass Big Muff

...Right. Moving on.

Here's an excerpt from an email I received about this very pedal:

"The Bass Big Muff is based on a really good sounding current production Russian Big Muff (we don't have any of the green ones unfortunately) with some changes to the Tone knob to make it sound better with bass. And then we added a switch to give a bass boost or mix in your dry signal or no change at all."

WANT.

I don't want it based on the russian muff :(

Sorry to be a party pooper, but EHX already ship boatloads of pedals and have no reason to see TB win with publicity and Adsense money. Also, again, its still hurting the business of the many other EHX dealers around the world. If I was a dealer of EHX and TB undercut me, I would be pissed.

Take BJF effects for example, you can talk to Bjorn directly by PMing him on another 'certain' effects type forum. You can ask him as many times as you like for a Blueberry, but he will tell you that you have to go through Custom Sounds as they are the distributor. Sure, he could go down to his basement and knock up a pedal for you, but he doesn't want to hurt his dealers business (and end up with hundreds of personal requests). Same as if I go to Sydney and knock on Mr MI Audio's door and try and buy an effect through his back door. Its not going to happen.

Any reputable company will / should protect their dealers who work hard to move their product. Selling below an authorised price isn't fair. EHX have already proven they don't like it by smacking the bums of dealers who undercut prices on Ebay.

Then again, im an engineer and don't really know a great deal about sales etc.. I just can't see it myself.

They could give a discount for subscribing members :) maybe a 5% would be reasonable

then you should probably look into the mxr el grande because apparently it's also muff-based.

Myself, I've been using a black Russian BMP for a while and was rapidly tiring of its large size and battery/adapter dependence. I am a certifiable ehx junkie with at least 10 of their products in my space (if not always on my board), and yet I have not ruled out the El Grande in favor of the BBM. As they're pretty affordable effects I intend to buy both and keep one. Surely I'm not the only one who'll be going down that road...

Same here,
Love the Russian Big Muff. Tried em all. I use the Russian with
a Radial blender so it does take up a lot of room on the 'board.
This new one could be a keeper.

I'm going to assume the "mixed in dry signal" setting
is a set percentage. I'll have to try it out on a gig to see
how it feels.

Here's hopin'

I like my LBM, actually, I haven't wanted anything else for a while. Though I always use it in the loop of a blender. The thing with me is that I want more in the loop of the blend. EHX should have given it a fully-blown effects loop, then it would REALLY get rid of that second pedal for me.

I see this as potentially being nice for some people if they really nailed the tone. I'm definitely going to try it out, probably the rest of these as well, but I have no idea if I will keep them. Funny this pops up now too as I just finished re-designing my blender pedal. It was having noise issues and I aim to replace it with a better-designed circuit and better quality parts and whatnot. The old one kinda just had everything crammed in there, it barely fit. This one should look a lot nicer and be more reliable. Anyways, once I got done verifying my design worked, I came on talkbass and found this thread, lol.

I'm a EH-aholic as well. (LBM, POG, QTron)

Side note: for active basses on the LBM (or big muff pi, probably), try turning down all your EQ knobs all the way, it does wonders for me. Or if that isn't enough, turn the volume on your bass down some too.

I think that Edward was actually refering to a blend loop, not an effects loop.

Nope. Effects loop. Kinda the same as a blend loop. If you have a blend pedal it has an effects loop that blends the clean signal with the effect path in the loop. What I am saying is you have this muff that doubles as a blend pedal, where the effects loop is placed after (or before, perhaps switchable) the fuzz, but before the blend.

I don't know about you folks, but I run a blender with multiple things in the loop. Usually it goes blender (effect) send => muff => 105Q (wah) => TS-5 (tubescreamer) => blender (effect) return. Sometimes my POG is before the muff in the loop. So what I would prefer them doing is putting this effects loop on it so I can keep the setup I have currently. They kinda left that idea open with giving you a dry out and a effected out, but you still have to mix it together yourself, unless you bi-amp...

So I doubt this pedal will benefit me very much. Back to building my own blender...
