Electro-Harmonix Bass Big Muff

Yeah I've been debating that myself since I learned about it.. I've got an El Grande with my name on it at my local music store (haven't actually had a chance to cruise over and give it a whirl).. but with the BBM coming out.. I might just have to wait... already have a Blowtorch and a PD-7, so it might be good to give EHX a chance in the fuzz department

I've been hemming and hawing about which muff to buy for months. I had an old (now called "vintage") LBM that I loved, but the people on ebay want $100+ for those ... in beat condition. Not sure I can do that.

Definitely going to have to wait and try the BBM! Blend built in, with a boss style power adapter ... sounds like a winner to me, assuming it sounds right.

I'm looking for a tone like Jared Followill gets. Any suggestions for a specific muff to cop that sound appreciated.

Edit -- Here is an example of the tone I mean:

Though I notice even he doesn't quite cop it in the live versions of the song I've found.

man now I all cant wait for these to come out

actually at this point I'm more excited to try some of my own stuff out, I just bought a bunch of random parts (transistors, diodes, etc) online and I am waiting for them to come home so I can experiment. If I come up with anything good, I will let you guys know!

BUT one thing I found pretty cool: if you send your bass signal through a power boost or amp, then just straight through one LED, if you get it loud enough, it gets a pretty gnarly fuzz! so simple... no wonder they use these things to make fuzzes. Its all glitchy and stuff too, it also sounds at times like it has a huge gate on it.

If you've got loads of parts and a breadboard, try and build a tonebender clone Sir, search for the Bazz Fuss, it's meant to sound pretty beefy! I might give it a go myself...

I might try, but my intentions are to experiment before doing anything like that so I don't have pre-conceived notions of what a fuzz circuit is supposed to look like. I figure if I do this before really examining any already existing circuits, I might be able to come up with something new or my own way of doing things. Then once I fry all my parts I will look up the classic circuits and see how I was supposed to do things. Then I can take ideas I come with and apply them to the old circuits. :D

Thats the game plan anyways. haha
