I was completely taken aback last week when I opened an unknown package and found PolyWeb .105-.45s inside it! I had very low expectations of actually getting anything.
Anyways, I haven't used 'em yet, as the bass they're gonna go on isn't even built yet. It's a Carvin B4 fretless kit, and I'm finishing it off with Dimarzio J pickups and the Elixers I guess!
If I keep these things on the bass twice as long as my usual string brand - I won't be sending these back for about 2 years! Hopefully the prize isn't very substantial! (Somebody let us know what the prize is?)
I'm hoping I can get some Mwah outta these things - kinda surprised by your findings Embellisher. Although, I can see how the coating in the windings might help replicate half-rounds, as well as not providing a hard enough surface to resonate off the fingerboard convincingly.
The first time I played Elixers I was shocked how balanced and punchy they sounded, as well as having a finger-friendly feel and a killer B.
