I was completely taken aback last week when I opened an unknown package and found PolyWeb .105-.45s inside it! I had very low expectations of actually getting anything.

Anyways, I haven't used 'em yet, as the bass they're gonna go on isn't even built yet. It's a Carvin B4 fretless kit, and I'm finishing it off with Dimarzio J pickups and the Elixers I guess!

If I keep these things on the bass twice as long as my usual string brand - I won't be sending these back for about 2 years! Hopefully the prize isn't very substantial! (Somebody let us know what the prize is?)

I'm hoping I can get some Mwah outta these things - kinda surprised by your findings Embellisher. Although, I can see how the coating in the windings might help replicate half-rounds, as well as not providing a hard enough surface to resonate off the fingerboard convincingly.

The first time I played Elixers I was shocked how balanced and punchy they sounded, as well as having a finger-friendly feel and a killer B.

I just got my set last week,and I wasn't even expecting them! I had a custom fretless 5 string(MPG) built and Matt had a 5 string set of Elixrs that he put on there for me. I really like tham on the fretless.Nice and smooth,great tone. I have a 6 string bass that came with Elixers from the factory.I have to say I was a little skeptical at first, but I'm really starting to warm up to them for fretted basses too. This 4 string set is going in the BC Sterling. Should be interesting.

Well, I've been playing these strings for a little while now, and the sound was growing on me. I was playing the same bass (Roscoe SKB-5) exclusively for a few weeks with the Elixer's. I decided to change strings on another of my Roscoe's, and I must say, I'm going to go back to my original thoughts on these Elixer's. The tone out of the box is dead. The low mid prescence is nice for fingerstyle, but it's just too chunky sounding for technical tapping type playing. Also, the highs almost seem muted in comparison to the new set of D'Addario's.
Overall, I'm still having a blast with the string trial. I like the Elixer's better this time around, but my thoughts are still the same that more or less, they are dead out of the box. I don't forsee myself shelling out the extra money on these strings though. If they were priced the same as the D'addario's, I'd probobly buy them just to change it up on a few basses, but at their current pricing, I'd rather have three sets of D'Addario's for the price of one set of Elixer's

Finally put the set of free Elixir Nanowebs .045-.105 on my Sadowsky VJ4 (Brazilian Rosewood board/ash body) and played an outside gig last night. Used my Accugroove El Whappo and Aguilar DB750. I thought the Nanos strung up easy enough (could be the great Sadowsky bridge :D ) and I don't mind the stiffness, I prefer it. The Nanos sounded great. Lowmid bump, huge solid bottom, clear even tones throughout. Slightly muffled which I compensated with my handy Sadowsky eq. My rig sounded fabulous and got many compliments such as "big, clear, huge, punchy, rockin', kicking" bass. People love that. Sadowskys are a bright instrument in my opinion and the Nanowebs sound really nice, a bit of a taming if you will... Don't know if I'll "switch" from my usual Sadowsky Bright Nickels or not but these string are real nice, at least after one gig. I've heard these coated strings go dead just all of a sudden... yes..no?

The only way I'd go through the trouble of putting Nano on a bass again (and taking them off) is if the prize is a new set of DRs!

I bought a set when I needed a 5er set of anything in a small town, and this was all they had. I was literally distracted by lack of low end.
