Eminence Kappalite 3015

Only if you've got more than 400 watts on tap, see my reply to PGK.

So my v4 would underpower these speakers and the 2515 is a better choice...... looking at the specs why not use the CB15? The 2515 only comes in 4 ohm......I would prefer an 8 ohm so I have room with my amp to add a cab or cabs.

What I liked about the 3015 is thier higher sensetivity and and frequncy range..that's why I thought they would be a better fit.

So what I'm gathering, as far as the Carvin LS1503 is concerned, if you are not using a 5 string, or pumping gobs of power into it, the 3015 is the way to go?

...just trying to get this straight in my mind, probably misunderstanding, but for a 215 with two 3015LFs (or I suppose two separate 115 cabinets, each with a 3015LF)...an Ampeg SVT, Mesa 400+, Trace V6, Fender Bassman 300/Sunn 300T, or any other 300 watt tube amp, none of these would be able to push the two 3015LFs enough to get full use of the 3015LFs...

...and if I'm incorrect, if they would push two 3015LFs enough, how about if the 215 cab included two midranges (or each of the two 115s included a midrange)?...

There's really no need for two midranges with the 3015LF - a quality mid can support both easily. To expand on this more, if you put like an 18 sound or B&C mid driver in there, you'll need to pad the midrange at least 3db (more likely 6db IIRC) if you're using a passive crossover with a single 3015LF by itself. You could just use an active crossover and turn the volume down on the midrange amp I guess, but I would expect most people to want to use passive crossovers.

While I could be wrong, I expect a 300w tube head to occasionally push a great deal more than that when clipping (which is a pretty common situation with the high power tube heads).

I'm not sure it'll be enough to maximize the Kl3015Lfs, but on the flipside, it would definitely make them very loud, and Deltalite 2515s are not THAT much cheaper than 3015LFs. So if you want to plan for the future and buy a much superior speaker for not much more, might as well get the 3015lfs :)

Also, a 300w tube head should be more than adequate to push a single 3015LF + Midrange quite hard (to the point where it would explode a 2515 + midrange).

rpsands, in order to match the voltage sensitivity of a pair of 99 dB 3015LFs in parallel you'd need a midrange of about 105 dB/2.83 volt sensivity, and I don't know of any 6" or 8" driver meeting that description. Then you'd still have the issue of power handling.

A couple approaches come to mind. One is a horn mouth for the 18 Sound 6ND410, which Passinwind and I have looked at a couple commercial designs that would work... Also considering doing a joint project to design and build one, perhaps for a future composite fEarful.

Another approach that works decently if not altogether purist in nature - especially if a mid-sized HF horn is used - is to use tailored crossover network with low order topology and some overlap.

There's no such thing as underpowering. There is such a thing as not spending more than you have to for the same result, and with a V4 even one Deltalite II will take more than it can put out, though having a 2x15 would be helpful for getting enough sensitivity so that you'll be heard despite the low power of that amp. The Deltalite II 2515 is an 8 ohm driver.

That could only be answered by Carvin releasing T/S specs on them. - 15" Neodymium woofer
- 3" Voice Coil
- Power: 600W @ 4 ohms
- Rear Vented
- Freq Resp: 35-3kHz
- Net weight 7.4lbs.

is not sufficient information to draw any useful conclusions.

It's a B&C speaker. The question is which model?

I'm not so certain it's not an Eminence/Carvin myself with a new OEM magnet structure, with similar T-S to their older models that are doing duty in the same cabs. Unfortunately no T-S parameters for the past two generations of Carvin "upgraded" versions have been available, so one has to guess by what cabs they are being used in (if one has measured dimensions and tuning of those boxes) and the older-version T-S data that has been superceded...

Not sure where you all play but I never was able to use my SVT the way I wanted to so that's why I got the V4. I think I will stick with the 2515, it's a solid speaker and I'll save over $100.

I was going by the unpainted magnet, that seems to be the same as B&C's blk painted magnet.

I´m a bit confused by tuning the ports. My cab net volume (vb) is about 2.92 cu.ft, I have the kappalite 3015 speaker and two 4.331 in diameter ports. I´m useng winISD beta and bass box pro 6 as well. If I have port lenght 4.935 in, then bass box pro says that my tuning frequency (fb) is 54 Hz, winISD says 57.5 Hz. Which should I trust? Anyway which tuning is the best if I`m after punchy ampegish (but clearer, less boomy) rock bass tone?

Do you get more perceived sensitivity with a tube head @ 4 ohms vs. a tube head at 8 ohms? I've got my Mesa 400+ on the brain which I believe is 270-300w regardless of the resistance.

I was only counting the +3db for doubling of drivers, not the +3db for reducing the ohms, in which case 99db + 3 for doubling is pretty close to the 102db of an 18 sound 6nd410.

Also, with the differences in perceived volume in the midrange vs. lower end, I would expect most people to be just fine with a single 102db midrange driver (although that does defeat the purpose of a totally flat cab). Most folks I know roll the midrange/high off on their 3-way cabs quite a bit with the attenuators.

I am nearly positive eminence gets their stuff OEM from eminence.
Not any more. Those neos are not Eminence, nor are many other recent additions to the Carvin lineup. Those neos appear to have have stamped steel frames and are very shy on heatsinking, so I'd be taking their power ratings as optimistic. They appear no more technically sophisticated than the Eminence Basslite S2012. Eminence does not make 15 inch stamped steel frame neos, nor 15 inch neos without massive heat sinks.

Eminence gets their stuff from China, technically.

Carvin's NE's are B&C. Check the magnets.

The frame is different than stock B&C's. Probably a cost cutting measure. If it's 1.5lbs more but is $100 cheaper it's worth it.
