Joe,

Again wondering if you got T-S parameters for the drivers that are currently being used in their cabs and sold raw, particularly the neo ones. Last time I requested them they pointed me at the ones that were already a couple generations out of date in the case of 15" drivers at least - with wrong voice coil sizes among other things, from what was going into their cabs. No neos of course, were in use back then, and those in particular I would like to see.

So are you saying that a 50 watt amp will do the job as well as a 300 watt amp if there's no mimimum to get the optimum performance out of a 3015?

well no, that was'nt my quote, it was a quote from someone else i grabbed for a post i later deleted because i worried it might come off the wrong way. in it i said the same thing as bill, that there is no such thing as "minimum" watts. you can't underpower Any speaker, but you can sure overpower them. a 400/ 500 watt speaker driven by a 50 watt amp will cruise along all year long as happy as a clam; i've been doing just that for well over 20 years with a modded bassman head and identically sized bag end or mesa single 15 cabs. did it yesterday in fact; it was the house rig for an outdoor multi band festival and it was running non-stop 11 hours straight. and most of the bass players there wanted to take that rig home with them, you betcha they did. it raised eyebrows all day long. plenty loud, plenty of seriously whomp ass tone. it was mic'd, along with everything else. with cough cough, a shure 58....

anyway i digress; you should have no worries at all about having a big watt amp to go along with your big watt speaker(s). it's a non-issue

And there seems to be part of the answer; "mic'd up". hardly a test for any amp or cab.

The majority of UK gigs do not provide in house PA; probably 5%. In 47 years of gigging only a very small miniroty of venues have had inhouse PA. In the 60s most of us built our own P.A.systems.

So what would be your answer for pure backline (no PA support) gigging.

a big amp of course! makes sense to me, ya know? for my tastes that amp would be a ashdown abm 500 with a pair of 15's

but for the record, that rig i mentioned rarely needs to be mic'd up even with a loud roots rock band. outdoors of course, but for club gigs it's rare, seriously. if they mic the kick then of course i mic the bass cab too, because it'd be pretty stupid of me if i Did'nt mic it in that situation. if i had 2 super efficient single 15 cabs i would definitely never ever have to mic it up for lack of power with an unmic'd drum kit. but anyway i'm getting away from the sub-topic here at the moment, which is "underpowering".

Yes, they were the specs on the new Neo's.

I've just started using the Ashdown Little Giant 1000 into two 8 ohm 3015s, the back therapy is fantastic.

What cabs do you have them in? Are there any 1x15 cabs that are a good fit for the 3015? Since I'm all thumbs when it comes to DIY, I need to find a readily available 1x15 that is a good fit. I do own the Cravin 1503 which would be good, but 'm thinking of getting another one and using them both for PA.

I build my own Cabs, my views are that you don't need sophisticated design cabs with the power that is available from amps and the high power handling of the speakers themselves, I also have a 2x10+horn to go with a 1x15.

So, would you care to give an opinion on ready available cabs that would be a good match for the 3015? I'm primarily looking for a 1x15 cab w/tweeter setup. Thanks.
