Eminence Kappalite 3015

i have them in an old mesa diesel cab: works great.

I just got a 3015 today for my Diesel 15.

I'll drop it in and give it a run this weekend.

Paired with a VB-2



edit - I just installed it - it's FANTASTIC! totally smoothed everything out. This speaker sounds killer in the cab.

I got my 3015LF in... wow that thing weighs almost nothing! Amazing how they were able to take so much weight off.

I slapped together a "temporary" enclosure of ~4 cubes and tuned to I think 45hz... cant remember off the top of my head. Anyways, adding it to my 4 10 carvin cab, it increased overall volume by a definite noticeable amount (though of course, 8 and 8 ohm = 4, which is the difference of 330 to 550 watts on my head) but definitely boosted the low end quite a bit. I could drop from low B to G# and it still took the beating, no problem.

I look forward to a final enclosure w/ a 6" in there to give me the mids and rid of the 4x10 cab to see what it can do on its own w/ a good Xover ;)

The 3015 is pretty forgiving so it would be a decent place to start. Ideally you would determine the gross volume in the cab and then subtract something like .25 cu ft to account for the volume displaced by the 3015 itself. If you get a result between 2.2 and 2.6 cu ft then you can probably make it work really well. You may (will probably) have to re-work the porting in the cab to get the best results with it.

I can't find where I found it now, but if memory serves me correctly, the 3015LF was only .013 cubes displaced... maybe it was .03... something like that. Ill have to dig around again, but it won't take a full quarter cube.

That's a good value to use for these drivers. Pretty close to what I use, and I'm trying to keep 'em real or even a bit large so I don't end up with less volume than I meant to go with. It's so easy to apply wishful thinking to what bracing, port space, handles, drivers take up. But it never bears out.

It is listed as .19 cubes with a MUCH larger magnet and FAR more basket material.

Don't take my .013 cubes as a fact as I can't seem to find where I found that a week ago (which is really bothering me, maybe I saw it for another driver and have it stuck in my head it was this one?), but its definitely going to be a lot less than .25 cubes.

Remember, only anything of solid material is going to be considered as taking up air. So if you took a bucket of water, marked where it was at, very slowly dipped the driver in there all the way, took it out, and measured what is left, thats how you would find out about how much displacement the driver will take inside the box. With as small of a magnet and how thin the basket assembly on this driver is, I doubt it would take a whole lot of space.

Oopsie - I myself use 224 cubic inches - .13 cf.

I still think it takes less than that. I might just get a hold of the company to get an accurate number. (though do note, I don't think .013 is correct...)

I would say .10 would be very close.

I have one in my Diesel 115 and it just slays... one of the best sounding small cabs I've ever used.
 
All I wanted to know is the Recommended Crossover Frequency (not how to make a crossover) for the 3015LF and ND430 speaker.

That's a poor matchup IMO, at least based on the published specs. The 6ND430 is not very sensitive and is more of a mid-bass driver than a midrange one. The 6ND410 is what's used in the fEarful designs, and works well crossed anywhere from ~500-800 Hz, in my experience. Some people prefer a crossover point closer to 1200 though. I'd recommend starting with a variable active crossover if at all possible -- that way you can decide for yourself. ;)
