EMMA Transmorgrifier

That's their compressor... I've been interested in trying one, but haven't seen one for sale used lately, and don't want to buy it new. Just on general principle, I would recommend setting the attack and release fairly slow to avoid distortion or "pumping" artifacts. The ratio is totally dependant on your playing style, and the level is totally dependant on your bass and other gear, so you'll need to figure those out on your own. I would set both of those to "noon" and adjust from there.

When I demo'd one it had a sheet that came with it that mapped out a few settings. The breath of settings was impressive with tons of clean adjustment, but you could really crank it into squash effects too. I'm not a 'compressor' guy but there was one called "atomic blast" or (something like that) that nearly sold me.

I'm thinking about getting a good compressor pedal and by random happening I borrowed an EMMA TransMORGifier from a friend today. Maybe you guys could help with some questions about this pedal ...

Does anybody knows at which level the threshold is set? Strange enough they didn't put at threshold controller on it (I mean - there's release, attack and ratio, so why not have the threshold controller as well??). In my opinion the threshold is fairly important when it comes to compressors!

Another question: When you increase the ratio the pedal also turns up the overall volume. Is this a normal feature? And why is it doing so? The reason why I find this weird is that the pedal also has make-up output gain control as well - so if it is to compensate for lower overall output level it really doesn't make sense to me.

BTW, does anybody knows the range of the ratio controller? How far does it go? The manual is only one page which doesn't explain a lot, no technical details at all...

5stringwonder: You can download the manual sheet from EMMA's website (Invalid Link Removed)

Anyways, I like this pedal - sounds great, but I think it get way too noisy when turning the ratio up more than 12 o'clock...

I picked up one of these a little while ago. I posted the same question as you after fiddling with it a bit. Here's a link to the responses...

I do keep the ratio at about 9:00. Any higher and I lose too much. With the ratio this low, the 2 middle dials have a very subtle effect and you will need to spend time adjusting them to your liking. I have them very close to the picture in the above thread.
