Epifani Club! I've seen the "light"!

Actually, it's the number "2". It says "UL Series 2", and also, there is a visual difference due to the change in the grill material.

The newer models have the bigger grill material like the current Performance series (though you can't tell from their website, because it's so woefully out of date). Here's a pic with one of each.

I forgot about that change in grill material. Cool. That makes it easy to tell the 'light' versus 'less light' S2 models.

Yup. :)

I haven't verified this, but I THINK all the changes were related to a move to have UL Series manufacturing done China instead of the USA. I think up until that point, they were using the ultralight select Italian Poplar plywood, and that smaller hole grill material. However, when they moved manufacturing to China, I would assume it's the same shop that builds the Performance series, hence the same grill material and the different plywood and insulating material.

Of course, Epifani isn't officially advertising any changes to the line (at least that I've seen), so the above needs verification. I may get around to pinging them on this, but I'm not sure I care enough about it to do so. I'm pretty well set up with what I already have. :)

That was my theory when this happened. I don't really care where they are made, but the weight increase is a deal killer for me. The new 310UL weighs about the same as my 410UL's (and not much less than my AE410). On an absolute level, they are still relatively lightweight. However, to me, that would be like Markbass coming out with a new LMII that has the same spec's, but is now heavier and larger. It's not a good direction to move in IMO.

i wouldnt be surprised if this is an interim thing, cause knowing nick, he's always up to something. i wouldnt be surprised if there's a "series 3" in the mix! haha...

Tone has been reported as identical (by Vic who had them side by side, and also by another TBer.. can't remember who). Same drivers, etc.

I just did yet another A/B of the Series I and Series II with TBer Vision (who just got a Series I 410UL), and for all practical purposes, they are also interchangable. The I has just a touch more upper mid response, and a touch more deep low end, but I use them literally interchangeably.

Per my post showing both in the picture, I still currently have one of each, and I have compared them side-by-side... literally quick-switch via A/B switchbox. I'm unable to tell them apart (a GOOD thing!!). :)

I don't mean to seem like I'm trying to create a sensation, but dude, if you have a line on a first generation S2 UL410 (is that a 1G S2 UL410? :D), you need to jump on it. Take out a short term loan, borrow from your savings, whatever. I personally view these, and the S1 UL310, as being the most highly desired Epi cabs out there, and unfortunately in limited supply since they're both no longer made. :)

I'm trying man! Would like to keep the UL310, so that's what makes this tough. Gotta post a few things here to see what hits.

I have an older T-115 that has been reloaded with a B&C UL driver, making it kind of a T/UL-115, and I agree that it is a fantastic cab! It sounds great as a stand alone, or with the UL-310 on top. :cool:

Both Amps are great! The F1 is really nice because of it size. But the Epifani just feels right for me and I think it sounds very cool. I hope that little Piccolo Epifani amp will come soon :smug:
