im still addicted to the ceramic tone enough to lug it around. i dont think i could deal witha 4x10, or the weight of the old side by side 2x12(even though the tone is heavenly)...but a 1x12 and 2x10 setup should be perfect for me, with neither cab eclipsing the 60lb mark. and being able to eventually push 500 or 600 watts into the pair...i will be a happy boy.

and IIRC, there have been a couple users on the forums that have used ul3x10+ ul 1x15 setups and really loved the extra oomph that the 1x15 adds.

i was AGONIZING over whether i would go UL310 + UL310 or UL310 + UL115 for months, until i got the former. i went for clarity over kick in the boot.

but if i get this new fall/college tour, we'll see if that changes. muwhaha.. ;)

hey joker,
i know you're tight with the epifani crew, so i was wondering if you have tried out the piccalo prototypes or demos and if you know any more information about its release...im thinking it must be soon as the ps1000 and 400 are now available to be ordered from musicians friend.(see above post) i also exchanged emails with some epifani employees awhile back and said all 3 heads would be hitting the market in the fall...just wondered if you could shine a little more light on the matter. peace,

external, that's REALLY hard to tell. but given the lower rating, its probably an earlier NYC model. cause the later T series were arena blasters.

you can also try looking at the speakers, and calling up the shop, cause only nick would know the difference there.

:confused: The NYC was the later version of the original T series, not earlier. Both had the same power ratings (400-1000 watts recommended by Nick). Since both the ceramic and UL's had tweeters (the 'T' in the name), Nick changed the names from 'T' to 'NYC" and 'UL' to indicate ceramic versus Neo. I believe they both still used the 'T' designation.

It looks like the front end of the 400 and 1000 is identical the PS600. The primary difference is the use of an SMPS (switching power supply) for lower weight (like the 902). The 400 is obviously less power than the 600, and the 1000 being more. My guess is the tone is very similar to the current 600. Smoother and pure... in a way a little too smooth and pure for my taste, although I still dig my 502 in certain rooms with certain basses.

I guess we all have different tastes. While I gigged with the original 'T' cabs for years (diagonal 210 and T-310 versions 1.. thin... and 2... deep, and a few others), I found them a bit mid scooped and I hated the tweeter (harsh and grating to my ear). The newer Ceramic NYC's used the new crossover and tweet, which was better, but still too much deep lows versus mid clarity for my tastes versus the UL's.

The UL's don't have quite as much booty down low, but are much more even in the mids, and the crossover and tweeter are a ZILLION times better than the original T's, IMO.

I guess we all have different tasted. Too much 'scoop' in those old T cabs for me.

I like that combo, for sure. Seeing as how I just picked up a second UL-310 (both S1's), I plan on comparing/contrasting the UL-310/UL-115 setup versus the UL-310/UL-310 stack. :bassist:

Ken, i definitely agree about the sound camparisons with the Ul's vs the NYC's, but i guess my personal taste lines up a bit better with the ceramic NYC's. the only problem i have ever had with their tone is how soemtimes the low end can be a bit too much, HUGE, if you will. everythign else about them is perfect for my tonal preferences, so i guess my goal is to find a head that tames that low end....leaning towards the f-1 currently, as you know, but im still waiting to try the new epifani stuff ebfore i amke any moves.

overall though, i have been extremely happy with my 1x10+1x12(NYC's) setup, and soon will be replacing the 1x10 with an NYC 2x10t. should be a fun little stack.

the onyl real cab gas ive had recently occurred this afternoon when i saw a used Bergentino HS 4x10 for sale at a local shop...uh oh.

bassist- your posts about the ul 1x15 always make me want to try one! i love the sound of a well done 1x15 cab, old school bliss. i also cant wait to visit vancouver and BC, i have a friend that lives there who ill probabaly be seeing sometime this year.

some bad news-just found out that i wont be getting the 2x10 nyc cab i had planne don...its 4ohms and not 8ohms like i originally thought. hmmmm...might have to shake things up amp wise. that bergentino hs 4x10 was looking pretty tempting.

Hey GK, yeah its the best 115 I've ever used... and for the tone I prefer I dont think I've heard better in person that I can actually fit in my car without a huge struggle. The portability is just the icing on the cake.

If I could get it in 4 ohm, I'd be in heaven.

If the low end of the UL410 is too big for you, you owe it to yourself to try the Bergantino AE410. Light, small, and just punchy as heck.

I also VERY much like the F1 with the 410UL, but it's still not as tight and punchy as the Berg. If you liked the HS410, you will most likely dig the AE410, and the weight difference is significant.

Also, since the new Epi stuff is significantly heavier than the previous UL models, the Berg looks even better!

hey ken,

i might go try it out this week. i just finalized a trade that will send my epifani cabs to LA for a bass. being gigless currently, i think i will really check out the market, maybe take a trip to nyc and play as much gear as i can before makign any sort of decission, although i have already tried a ton of stuff!...still no where near the amount that a lot of you gusy have tested or owned. i knwo one thing, right now, the amp that speaks to me most is the markbass f-1. but we'll see what mix of head and cab i finally settle on. peace,
