I was thinking that a 4 ohm cabinet could take more power, which would result in more volume. Therefore, the room where I would ordinarily need my 310, a 112 4ohm could cover it. Am I off base here? Come on guys....give me some details, this inquiring mind wants to know.

Generally speaking radiating space trumps adding power in a pretty big way, so I'm thinking there's no way a 112 could ever keep up with a 310 cab unless you were barely pushing the 310 cab and it was borderline overkill for the gig. But if you were fairly fully utilizing the 310, I doubt the 112 can be pushed hard enough to truly compare.

See, that's what separates the good guys from the not-so-good guys. Lakland is like that, which is why my 2 main gigging axes are Lakies. I wish I'd gotten that kind of cooperation from another boutique speaker manufacturer (who will remain unnamed) when I had to replace drivers in my cab...

Two similar cabinets that the only difference is 4 vs 8 ohms. There is no difference in how much power it can handle.

What a sound! So nice. I used to have that exact configuration of Roscoe 6'er and I can say it never sounded as good as that through an Iamp 800/Acme Low B2. (I'm not going to lie, it did sound good, but that combination of smooth deep low end and clarity everywhere else is something I've yet to find in my own rig.)

So, great. Now I want a UL310.

I miss my UL310, but have a UL410 and PS112 to keep me company - so no reason to cry. The 310 is a great cab, though.

Hey all, I'm new to this site and I gotta say it's an amazing source of knowledge, I don't know how I got by so long without it! I've got a question for the Epi owners. I just bought a UL310 series 2 cab, and i've been running it with my Eden 550. I find it's a bit shy on headroom for this cab, clipping the power amp section and so on at higher volume gigs. Does anyone else use this combination? I suspect the head is underpowered, and I'm considering a Markbass head. Any reccomendations? Thanks in advance.

While I love the Markbass/Epi combination, I don't find the LMII/F1 to have significantly more power or volume than the WT550, and find that head a very nice match with the Epi310UL. Are you cranking the enhance control on the Eden? Even a little bit of that control engaged can really suck the headroom from that head, especially with a rather deeply voiced cab like the 310UL.

That 310UL has a bit of 'scoop' built in. I found the best way to run the Eden WT heads with that cab was pretty much flat, with maybe a bit of low mid boost (around 125 or so) from the lowest semi-parametric mid band.

I like the F1 tone better with the 310UL (pure personal taste there), but it won't help with headroom IMO versus the WT550 IMO and IME.


Edit: Another issue is that the 310UL might be running out of steam. I've had that happen with that cab. It just starts to naturally compress and stop getting louder after a while. I always view that cab as a 'super 210', NOT a 410 substitute. When I moved from the 310UL to the 410UL a number of years ago, any 'headroom' issues totally disappeared at high volumes (with 500 watt or so heads into 4ohms). A cab reaching its limits (that x-max thing) can mimic the sound of an amp's safety limiting kicking in... that sort of compression in the low end, and the cab actually seeming to get a bit softer when you turn the volume up. So, assuming you aren't cranking the low end, or running that enhance control over about the 8 o'clock level, my guess is, you are hearing the limits of the cab not the limits of the head.

Hey Kjung, maybe that's what's going on, i've only had it on one gig so far, I'll know more after this weekend. I usually run the Eden flat, sometimes a bit of mid boost to cut through depending on the stage, I never run the enhance past 9 0'clock, usually less. My previous road cab was a beat up 210 yorkville (I know, it was cheap!) I think I'm just going to have to find the sweet spot with this cab, and the gig I had it on was an unusually high-volume situation. Mobax, yes, the clip light would flicker around the 11/12'o clock position (master volume), but only when I dug in on the low-B. I'll report back after the weekend, thanks everyone, gotta hit the road!
