Epifani Club! I've seen the "light"!

Just some information for the Epifani Club here at TB!............I recently had an opportunity to speak to some of the Epifani execs, and asked them some of the questions that have been going on around here since NAMM. There have been many "concerned" threads posted since the release of the new products................

- How do the new cabinets/products fit in with the current Epifani line?

"DIST Cabinets are the highest end cabinet now being produced by Epifani. They will be custom made for each order. The UL series is next in line, while still maintaining "top notch" quality. The PS series has a new grill to some what differentiate the look from the rest of the line. Still maintains the fuller sounding, powerful speakers. The Epifunky series is the new "Underground" line, providing quality at affordable pricing."

- How does the new DIST Cabinet switching work?

"The new DIST series won a reward at NAMM for "Most Innovative Speaker Cabinet Design" by Bass Gear Magazine (press release to follow later on). It has Dual Voice Coils with a patented Cross-Over design. It is not like another companies effort (Accu*****) that has been mentioned many times in this thread :)! Many high profile professionals stopped by the Epifani booth at NAMM to try the new DIST line out, and they all were overwhelmingly impressed!"

- What's with the New Epifunky line?

"The name Epifunky was decided upon by the staff with input from local "undergound" musicians. It is replacing the Underground line as quality equipment at a price point for working musicians. It is not a "slap", or "funk" cabinet, but for all kinds of music. The Epifunky is just the name, not the style. It will be played by many kinds of musicians, including Country, Acoustic Guitar, and Percussionists. The Epifunky line got great reviews at NAMM, and the most common remark was the sound quality for the price! It will be lighter weight, like the UL line, but will have less powerful speakers. These speakers are custom desinged by Epifani, and have gotten very high praise from those that have tried it!"

- Where are the various Epifani products made?

"All Epifani products are made in the US, with some parts being manufactured in Italy. The new Epifunky series will be made with a Chinese production partner that is overseen by their Italian partner, and Nick himself. This is not a "cheap" manufacturer in China, but a high end one, that builds to exacting secifications...................As evidence is the new Epifunky speakers!"

- Will these products be available soon, or are delays expected?

"All products, including Amp Heads ;), will be available in Feb/Mar of 2009. The reason for some delays last year are due to time spent getting the Chinese production partner up and running. They will produce the Epifunky line and print all the boxes and brochures."

Nick and Mario are very excited about the new product and press they received at NAMM. I will make sure the Innovation Award for the DIST Series gets posted as soon as possible....................They asked that you try the new DIST and Epifunky lines, stating "The proof is in the product"!

I hope this reassures everyone about Epifani's commitment to quality. I am just trying to keep the TB'ers informed, and getting you direct information!:cool:

So just to make sure I have this straight, he's saying ONLY the Epifunky products will be made in China, and the PS and UL series are all USA made?

Did they go through a period where the PS and UL2's weren't? I'm just asking because I thought someone who owned one of the newer UL2 series said the cab was somehow marked as being made overseas.

Just trying to get the facts straight.

My only real beef. What does that mean? All Epifani products are made in the U.S., except when they're not? :D

I trust the press release will make it to their website before updated information on cabinet weights?

Thanks for all the info! This makes more sense now - The Underground and Epifunky are the same line. I think that "Underground" is a WAYYYYYYYYY better name than Epifunky though. But this also eases the concern we had about the underground line looking exactly like the UL line (in that video clip the badging was the same.)

So with Epifani now there will be three main lines - the Epifunky on the low end which is lightweight but less powerful and built overseas, the Performance which is full weight but built in the US and more powerful, and the UL which is lightweight AND built in the US. Then you had the DIST cabs which sound like they are build in small numbers for those that would like that option.

I don't know about that Feb/March 09 release date though...for that to be the case the cabs would have to already be built and ready to ship to retailers.

They really need an entire website revamp with all of this product change, I hope they get on it soon.

That's the way it was explained to me, and I have inquired twice about this subject:ninja:.................Chinese partner production is for the Epifunky line, and all printed boxes and brochures. Everything else is either US made, or a combination of Italian produced parts that are integrated into US products and assembled here in the USA.:cool:

I think all products are due in shortly form the way it sounded. Seems like (at worst) they will be in the warehouses by Feb/Mar, getting ready to ship out to the distributors......................:)

I agree sith the website comment...............I will pass it along, to see what can be done!:cool:

Just had band practice with my completed rig

Bought a used Epifani UL2-112 recently
Shuttle 6.0
SR5HH

Daaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum


Finally I can hear the B string *and* feel it at any volume.
I just starting using the Shuttle with the Epi, but it is a VERY good matchup. I'll be tweaking tone controls from here on in but I had the shuttle set flat and did all my tweaking with my technique and tone controls on the bass... they way I've always wanted it to be!

i suppose i will take a club number 2 as i got my 3rd epifani cab recently after trading away my mini stack(nyc 1x12+ nyc 1x10).

i now have an ul 1x12 series 1 and will be adding an ul 2x10 series 1 sometime down the road...love their cabs(especially with my markbass f-1 !!!!!).

i hope they sort out all of their stuff and do a complete website revamp sometime soon...it is WAY outdated.

FWIW, the EpiFunky line seems good to go. We are getting a test rig in soon for a full review. We are also getting the DIST cabs (and hopefully a Piccolo 600) in for a Quick Look, but the full review will have to follow later, as they don't have a tone of these made up yet.

My UL902C head says 'Manufactured In Europe'. Maybe things have changed since I bought it last summer and they're bringing European parts to the US. Who cares really, as long as it works and does the job?

FWIW Nick and the rest of the Epifani guys couldn;t have been nicer to me on a recent trip to New York. I took in a dead UL112 speaker, Nick opened it up - ascertained that it could either have been overplayed by me or a faulty speaker, so we split the cost of a replacement. When I went to pay he saw I was down to literally the last dollar in my pocket (my wallet was in my bag) and before I explained that it wasn't really my last dollar he offered to take some money of the price so that I wouldn't leave his place without a nickel to my name. I think that speaks volumes about customer care.

Anyway, can I get a club number here too? ;)

Last night my soundman couldn't believe the tone and amount of shaking of the stage the UL2-112 did. Then I told him to pick it up (he's accustomed to 200lb subwoofers and his jaw hit the floor :) :)

I said "yeah, I did my homework. It helps to have equipment that is well engineered. And the price reflected that :) :) "

Last summer I took my UL310 to a rehearsal for a band I was going to sit in with for a set at a festival gig. When I left, I carried the UL310 in one hand while I opened the door and walked out. He accused me of "showing off" until I had him pick it up. Same thing; Mr. jaw, meet Mr. floor. :D

when your gear is that much easier to pick up, WHADDYA KNOW, bandmates dont mind helping you at load out! :rollno: :D
