Could someone who has compared both chime in?

Is the 410 as round and warm as the 212?

One of the things that I like about the 212 over the 115/210 is being able to set the eq "flat"on the Demeter Pre, (B,M,T, all at 12 o'clock and the presence at 9 o'clock and the parametric not engaged. I can use both P and J's without any changes. OTOH, the 115/210 required a more radical eq and differed for each different bass.

My other concern with a 212/410 is the disparity in volume between the two. The 410 must be louder? Balancing the volume might get tricky and the sweetspot in front of cab would seem to me to be two different distances.

Maybe Ken could add his thoughts.......

I can't be of much help here... I'm not a 'multiple big cab' user, and am much more familiar with the 10 loaded Epi's than the 12's. I know there is someone here who uses a 410UL's and two 112UL's with a 902 and digs it a lot! He might have posted on this thread... can't remember.

Gary is another who does this, but not the person I was thinking about in my previous post. I'm actually quite worried about him. I've sent him a few PM's over the last few months, but he hasn't been on the site since October. I don't know how to get in touch with him otherwise. I'm afraid he's probably not doing well:(

Since Gary is such an Epi fanatic, maybe some of the other Epi fanatics on this thread might know something.

I've been worried as well, Ken. We were regularly exchanging emails up until around the same time last year. Last I heard, things weren't so good. :(

Looking to move into Epifani - currently using a Markbass 2x10 combo and extention 2x10 cabinet underneath but just don't "like' the sound.
Don't get me wrong the Markbass is awesome but its definately a personal thing. Playing a Bongo 5 and I really miss the bottom end "thump' I used to get from my old Eden rigs.
Would the 2x12 , 3x10 or 4x10 cab be a better option - if i run through a UL502 Epifani head ( I like the switching option on those) considering the Bongo is 18 volt and I am looking for a tight and punchy B string sound.
Whats the vibe on the UL 502 amps? Are they good? ( I don't have on one I can road test at the moment)

the 502 really works the best set up with the 210 setup. the ratings match up the best that way. but you can use what ever you want. I'm not really a huge fan of the heads they make, but i love the the cabs. love em!

I may be the person Ken is referring to. I can't really help with a comparison between the 410 and the 212 -- I've heard that two 112's don't sound as big as the 212. I do use a couple of UL 112's, often with a UL 410 on larger gigs.

This may be a little "unorthodox," but I'm not a great fan of 410 cabinets in general. 10's just seem to produce more on-stage grunt or bark than I like to hear. I've had 410 cabs from SWR and Eden too, and although the high-end is much sweeter and better-integrated with the Epi cabinet, and the sound is somewhat more refined overall, these cabinets sound more alike than different to me on-stage. The exception, to my ears, is the Acme cabinets, which have much great low-end extension and emphasis, and are, I believe, a little mid-shy.

Having said that, when I couple the 112's with the 410, the combination is pretty full, without as much objectionable bark. Usually, I put the 410 cabinet on the bottom, with 112's closer to ear level. I always get lots of compliments on my sound, particularly from the five or six sound-guys my Seattle-based cover band works with.

These subjective "what I hear" posts are always challenging to write. I've learned over time that they generally tell me more about the poster than about the equipment! This post is no different. After over 40 years of playing and working with virtually hundreds of bass, amp and cabinet combinations, I've decided the only sure thing is that my sound is always GREATLY different from room-to-room, and often from night-to-night! But the challenge of finding the perfect sound is still pretty compelling!

Why would that surprise you? There's a lot more cone space in a 410, and driving comparable air space. Makes perfect sense to me. :)

Thanks for the input. I also agree that by this time in my life (50)that posts due "generally tell me more about the poster than about the equipment." That being said I will get back to the equipment!

Experimenting this morning, what I found that I like (at least for the moment !)is the UL-212 on the bottom and the UL-210 on the top with the tweeter rolled off a bit. This seems to give me what the 115/210 combo lacked; more low-mid/mid. It also seemed more unified. With the 115/210 I seemed to hear each cab individually, with the 212/210 it sounds like one big cab.

Please note that all the usual disclaimers apply, IMO, IME, TME, and with a grain of salt.:D

Got my 2x10 in the other day and here is the big rig with both the 2x10 and 4x10! :)

I must admit I think I heard my QSC PLX3402 laughing at me saying "is that all you got?" when I fired both of these up earlier. This thing was THUMPING and the LED's on the QSC were just barely coming on. Can't wait to try this rig out at our gig at a larger venue this coming Fri. night!
