I am new here. But I have been lurking for months.
No disrespect meant here. I was reading this and was simply wondering if this is speculation on your part or you do have full and complete information and documentation from someone at epifani to back up your statement.
Because you start your post stating "my feeling" leading me to think that it is your idea and not actual fact based. And later you say it may have been a mistake on Nick;s part. Did you ask Nick if he thought it was a mistake? If it is speculation, then I must ad that is how rumors start. And I am curious where your information comes from, is is working for epifani or a vendor? Because it is not a matter of "I like this tone and you like that tone", it is a more tangible issue than that. Again I mean no disrespect.
Thank you for allowing me to make my first contribution to this wonderful forum.
Of course it's my speculation and opinion, in response to a direct question in a post of 'I wonder why these things don't sell'?
Given that my day gig is new product development and marketing, my feeling is from my experience with other clients that Nick probably has no idea of what I'm talking about
. It is obvious to me as a new products design and marketing consultant that the positioning of the PS600 relative to its pricing is pretty flawed. This has NOTHING to do with if it's a good sounding head or not... but has everything to do with ease of getting distribution (i.e., do the retailers think they can sell it) and in generating a good price/value image that will make it pop in the marketplace (i.e., will the consumer buy this over another piece of gear). As you can tell, I take a particular interest in the marketing aspect of bass gear... what niche it might fill in the market, the price/value ratio, if it brings anything truly new to the market (i.e., tube tone in a lightweight amp, high power in a lightweight amp, uber boutique all tube power, lightweight cabs, cabs with huge low end or very 'flat' voicing, etc., etc., etc.). I do enjoy to apply my 'non music' day gig experience and knowledge to try to understand why some gear just explodes into the market place, and other gear (most of the times, very good sounding gear) just lays there.
I love Nick's cabs, and am actually one of his earliest retail customers. He's hit plenty of home runs. This line of amps doesn't seem to be one of them IMO (again... IMO
That being said, all this is opinion and IMO interesting banter!
Edit: Welcome to TB!!!!
