Epifani Quest Discontinued?

MacGroove said:
No, Nick built them, the Quest's weren't selling like the 502's were so he discontinued making the Quest.
And they weren't selling because of their size. It's the same chassis as the 502, just without the output section. The U5 has also done very well and I think that's what they're probably going for when they say, "We are currently working on employing the Quest technology in a form factor more suited to the demands placed on the modern recording musician."

I think it's just fine the way it is!

Available from MF also?

I guess it's a one channel amp only?

950w @ 2 oHms, 750w @ 4 oHms, 550w @ 8 oHms

Nice that it goes down to 2 ohms...
I would assume that the new power amp is going to have the same power section as the "upgraded" 902. I think this might be what MacGroove posted on another thread about the release time on the 902.

From epifani.com:
"The UL 902 (working title) will feature 2 x 900 watt amplifiers each capable of handling a 4 Ohm load. With this set-up you could conceivably run 4, 8 Ohm UL 4x10's - If that won't move some air then nothing will! And yes - the price will change…"

How does this compare to an Avalon U5? I have a Focus SA power amp (Series III) and a Bergie HT112. I am currently using a programmable BDDI as a DI/preamp. It's very portable, and sounds good, but I think I miss having a better preamp. I was thinking of getting another Avalon, but maybe this is better? Same price.

Tom - any thoughts?

I play pop/rock/jazz.
Hey Steve,
Earlier in the thread, someone said that the Quest sounds very similar to the U5. That's the conclusion I've made as well. I'm going to post my findings soon.

Well, I could no longer hold out and now another TB'er is going to be the proud new owner of a Quest II. I am going to also do an A/B of it and my Dem. 201. The Demeter is my favorite pre thus far but I'm an Epifani cab devotee and I've been hearing Joker flap his trap so much about this combo I have to check it out for myself. You are an evil man :hiding: -- if it doesn't measure up I can always move it for this price. I'm undecided as of yet about the ears and footswitch. I may just get a bag and set it on top of the CA9 rack. Anyone have one of these bags? And the switch would be cool, but for $75. . . I don't know. Anyway, thanks v-12 for the Dem/QII review it was very helpful in my decision to spend more money:D

I'll let everyone know when she arrives:bassist:

Another one bites the dust... VERY undecided on keeping it tho... I so don't have the spending money right now...

It has to totally knock my sox off or it's going back, because I also don't have money for a power amp yet, and I'll have to ebay off some stuff to cover it. I refuse to use credit cards to borrow money.

Thing is, I just didn't want to be one of the guys that found out after the fact it's exactly what I wanted for a big rig and missed out on "the deal".

I just cancelled the order - when I got the confirmation email it then mentioned the 50 bucks of sales tax for WA state. Sorry, I'm just not going to do sales tax for web orders.

Cancelled - thanks for the tip and thread anyway.

Jay

p.s. - anyone want to order this for me and have it sent to me as a gift? That's probably the only way to do this - my old feedback thread will verify that I pay incredibly quickly.

I say it WILL knock your socks off and maybe even your pants, so don't test it out in front of any ladies you might be bashful around.

And if you send it back, find a local support group for people who realize they made a BIG mistake and wished they hadn't. :bawl:

I understand. You'd spend the $499, plus $50 for tax PLUS $24 for the rack ears, AND another $75 for the footswitch.... that'd be in the $650 range.... I'd think about it too. Not that it helps, but I got it for $499 flat... no shipping, no tax. I did spring for the $24 rack ears... For $650, you could get a number of used pre's, a Nav, F1X, Gruuv's Dem 201s. IT's only $650...think about it LONG AND HARD!!

I hear ya...problem is that with the Raven Labs MDB-1 setup, I really do have two (actually three) "channels" on the Demeter 201 1.5 space unit I own. $650 goes a LONG way toward the NL-210 that I need to get eventually to complete the cab selection (still looking for one used to pop up). All this in addition to the additional Firepod I need to complete the live recording setup.

Thus, this purchase would have been a complete "extra". I just really am fond of a two-channel, great sounding, solid state setup, so I was looking forward to trying it out. If I liked it, I might have sold my entire current "lightweight" rig and looked for a one-space Stewart (or something like it) to make for a VERY light/powerful jazz/three piece rig that would have kicked with the Epifani pre.

Bottom line is that unless I can find some way of getting it for the 499 flat to include shipping/tax (plus $24 for the rack ears), I'm going to have to pass.

hmmmm...frustrated,
Jay
