Epifani web page cabinet compatability warning.

That's nice, but unfortunately its not reality. They did make the mistake and publish the bulletin. They can't "undo" what they did. Sure, they shouldn't have done it in the first place, but they did. You can judge them based on their engineering incompetance now and in the future. However, what I was pointing out was that the post I quoted seemed to be expressing your disatisfaction with the solution, with their removal of the bulletin and apologies to those who inquired about it. Given they made a mistake in publishing it, what do you think is appropriate rectification?

Oh no man, the solution of apologizing and taking it down is acceptable. They can't really do much else unless someone was adversely affected by the bulletin (which I doubt happened). It wasn't the solution I was dissatisfied with. I was just disappointed that the company would make such a silly mistake.

Ken,

Unless I misunderstood your post, it sounded to me that you were insinuating that, as USAJO mentioned as an option in his post, that I entered the neo market "before the world passed me by". That is not the case at all. I would never put out a product just because other manufacturers do, or even just based on market demand or hype. I would and will only put out a product which is engineered properly and something I'm proud to put my name on!

Regards,

Jim Bergantino

Ah... no, that's not what I meant at all (although I can see how my comment was misconstrued). Again, I LOVE the AE's. I was reacting more to some of your most ardent fans stating that 'this is finally the first good neo cab'... i.e., Jim has figured out what no one else has'. I believe that was the context of JO's original post... is this just a very good application of the current neo technology, or some new, super stupendous 'this will change everything' sort of engineering marvel.

You cabs ALL sound great (as do many others, and of course, some versions of your cabs work much better for my specific tone goals that others), and I seem to be getting quite a collection of them. I believe your neo executions are among the best out there.

I guess what I was trying to point out is that, at least to my ears, you didn't really 'replace' your non-neo options (i.e., found a neo you were happy with for all executions), but rather developed a line of neo cabs (which I assume was at least partially market driven... who wants to 'not make' something that a lot of people want), and also partially 'helped' by the fact that you started to produce the 'high sensitivity' type cabinet lines like the SA and HS, where the current neo speakers seem to really do a good job... i.e., tight punchy and articulate (and I guess by definition high SPL) versus huge low end, massive xmax, etc., etc.

I can't speak for Jim, but with the cost of shipping a 20 pound driver from Kentucky to Massachusetts $15, and that of a typical cab from factory to store averaging over $50, switching to neo is a no brainer. You can argue about tone all you want, but the switch en mass to neo by both driver and cab manufacturers was precipitated by $3 a gallon diesel.

Jees what we'd give for $3 a gallon fuel!

Try > $10 a gallon for eye watering!!!!

Nice post on the Epifani site from Nick himself stating that they really were talking about a tweeter issue with low powered amps of any make or model that are turned up too loud (Epi does not use any sort of tweeter protection circuitry like a lightbulb or circuit breaker, and the tweeter driver can 'go' if you push an amp to clip on rare occasions).

This makes sense, and it seems the original blurb was just poorly worded.

Again, IMO... no harm, no foul....

Good news. Thanks. :)

Epifani Update on a Service Bulletin

We’d like to take an opportunity to publicly address concerns regarding a bulletin posted on this site a few days ago:

The intent of the article was never to sell more amps, sell more cabs, to disrespect other manufacturer’s gear or their employees nor was it intended to position Epifani as an island isolated from the rest of the bass amplifier manufacturing community or the bass playing community. The article’s position was an oversight and Epifani publicly apologizes for any concerns raised by the article.

The “drivers” in question were tweeters, not woofers as speculated on by some people and they exhibited burned voice coils.

Over the years Epifani Custom Sound has sold thousands of speakers and our commitment to quality is deeply rooted in the history and culture of the company. Epifani is committed to designing state of the art products for bass players from every walk of life and we stand by the quality and craftsmanship of our past and current product offering. We also acknowledge and thank the legion of ardent Epifani customers who express their musical vision through their Epifani gear and honor us with their continued support.

Ciao
Nick Epifani

Should I charge them a consultancy fee???

:bassist: I've been feeding my Epi cab with pure class D power for years, QSC 1602 on a Epi NYC 310, never had any problems... Don't know what to believe, but IMHO their story is a fairy tale..:spit:

That Class D 1602 sounds like the fairy tale to me!

Unless yours is not a PLX, it's AB.

Besides, they were talking about underpowering, which is not the case with the 1602/ NYC 310 combo.

I'm baffled as to why they didn't specifically mention tweeters from the get-go. Oh well, as you said, nice correction from Nick.

I used to blow the protection bulbs in my Acmes all the time when I had a Mackie M1400. After I upgraded to a QSC PLX 3002 I never blew another bulb in five years of use! I'm not sure whether that was due to the greater headroom, better clip limiting or a combination of the two.

Interesting thread - I missed it when it orignially came out, but have been searching on this since I've had nothing but problems with my Epi UL410s2 since I got it. My inquiries to Epifani started shortly before\around the time of the Epifani posting...

I play through a Thunderfunk - I had the original problem of a speaker buzzing with my 420 and continued with my new 750 as well. Initially, I thought something was loose on the cab, but as it got louder over time, I realized I had a speaker problem. Oddly enough I've only had problems with the speakers on the left side of the cabinet - the two on the right side seem to be fine. I've bought two new speakers from Epifani and for whatever reason 3 out of the 4 (the two left and the two new speakers) are not working. Two are buzzing and one is dead (open voice coil).

I've never had problems with any other cabinets I've played these amps through (Bergantino and Ampeg), so really don't know what to say other than I am really disappointed in the cab.

WOW! I've never heard of this before ever. When did you get this cab (date)?

October, I think
Yeah, I think you're dealing with something totally different from the topic of this thread... did you start another thread on this? I'd suggest you do, and outline as much detail about the problems, and what, if anything, you've been told by them so far, etc.
