Epiphone Club

The jack casady bass arrived!
Looks good. Very err, gold. No fretboard coming apart & knobs & jack seem solid. Neck is straighter than straight.
Needs flats. It sounds fine w the rounds but feels like I'm playing rocks & gravel, as the dylan song goes.
Fun to play, I like the scale & the light weight and the bridge/nut spacing. odd shape body but I think I'm in love & I haven't even plugged it in yet.

There was some bubble wrap & foam in the small immediate box but no padding in the larger box surrounding that one. Fedex kid literally dropped it off at my desk at work. There's a small hairline fracture in the clear coat at the neck joint--looks & feels like a grey hair maybe 2" long.

Sounds really good plays well. it's very responsive to touch, & chords sound great on it. I like the low and middle pickup positions best. But only played through a small practice amp. I'm very pleased.

Further review: jack bass is pretty stellar. I haven't been this hooked since the gretsch g5123b. Labella flats haven't arrived yet but when they do, it will be a dream. I'm considering swapping tuners. These are great they stay put but the weight is noticeable. I have a wide strap so it doesn't dive but has a tendency to if I'm wearing a tshirt. I might also cover the pg with a vintage myrtle I recently picked up. That thing I do. Anyway, yes this is def a one-bass-only contender. Very happy with it. Only change strings, maybe tuners.

add: I put an old set of leftover flats on it (red thread--don't recall the brand). It definitely feels better and is much easier to play. I intonated it & lowered the bridge height last night & this morning, now the bass is at its best playability. I'm a flats guy anyway but it does sound nicer, very warm & pretty. How can you go wrong w semi hollow & flats w an excellent pickup.
I still intend to put the labellas on it. my favorite strings/ i think will sound improve.

Lets see if this works:

I'm glad you love your Jackbass, Chuck; I thought you would.

This bass is great with most kinds of music, especially live playing with acoustic instruments, and no percussion.

The only thing it can't really do is the Jaco tone, but who cares?

Good luck with it. ;)

I have to get mine fixed.

Mike
P.S. Try the lowest pickup setting, and play over the end of the neck, you'll get a pretty good upright-like tone.

I picked up a fretless Epiphone Zenith recently (this exact one pictured below) and have been very impressed with the fit, finish and sound it produces. Very stand-up-ish with great Mhwaaaa...

Between this and an old Chet Atkins DMB styled acoustic I had, I've got nothing but good things to say about Epiphone products.

Found one on CL - it was still basically new. The owner was an upright player and didn't like the switch to Electric Bass.

The only issue I have with it is the power of the pickups - the neck pickup is much louder, so for equal blend, you're only a hair off of full bridge pan. This of course might change when I replace the battery (I haven't done so yet and don't know how much juice it has left).

Thanks.
Really? I think it can do jaco tone w roundwounds near the bridge.
Flats at high output setting sounds phenomenonamil.
