Using the original fretboard for layout, first my initial idea was for a slimmed down Epiphone headstock. I'll be using compact tuners instead of the rather large ones used originally.View attachment 7335068and as suggested a Flying V headstock as an option.View attachment 7335069

The V you could even go more compact as you are using 3/8 tuners.

The BookTop is traditional, but the Flying V is also in the Gibson family and has a cool look to it. It won't save much weight though. But it will promote straighter string pull through the nut, if that matters to you.

Good call on going with compact tuners! Those big elephant ears that everybody loves are just waaaaaaaay overkill most of the time.

Okay I finished the Wolf 5 string so this one is next. I started to trim the neck to width and still have a ways to go. Will update with pictures later.

The replacement bridge arrived

so I can properly align the new neck.

It looks like I need to end the neck right about center between the 23rd and 24th fret to get the bridge position right. The idea here is to not do any mods to thr body so all work is to be done on the neck only to make it work. Not really wanting 23 frets so I will probably scallop the end after the 22nd to make it work. Have to lose the side dots as well.

Worked up some courage snd fired up the bandsaw to trim the end. I almost have the neck narrowed enough to fit the body. I need to pop out the 23rd fret, scallop the fretboard end and round thr corners to fit.

Managed a nice fit neck to body.

next to scallop the end of the board and look at screwing it in. There are two holes in the body I might fix first as they were drilled at angles. Overall shot looks interesting. I have to dig out the tuners and finalize the headstock so I can cut it.

Yeah it does but so does the e 34"scale neck on some EB3 basses. I'll lose a little length when thr headstock is cut down. May also be a bit of fisheye effect from thr phone camera.

I remapped the headstock a little wider. I have a new Epiphone decal coming and wanted to make sure it will fit.

I like cone headstock. Looks nice and is not unnecessary heavy. Just enough wood for function.

Busy weekend with fall cleanup. Still I found a few moments to cut the headstock. Figured I do that so no one would think I would change my mind about the "V"
