I think I'm happy enough with this shine given thd budget nature of this bass. I'll let it harden up then clean up the neck and oil finish it.

Back again. I have the neck mounted and tuners installed. It didn't dive without tuners but does now they are on. We'll see what happens when the bridge is on snd it's strung up. I think the biggest problem with these is the strap button at the neck plate.
If there's neck dive, maybe you could move the strap button to the neck heel?
Small progress. New nut and truss rod cover and put the little screws in for the tuners.
Well I've been at other things lately. Had a chance to work on this some more. Cut he nut and installed strings. Did a basic setup. Pumped it through a cheap practice amp and it's pretty cool. The maple neck and longer scale brightened the sound and tightened the feel. Still thumps but not as muffled as original. I have to install a truss rod cover, take the sharp edges off the frets and oil the fingerboard to finish.
