EQ recommendations please

Looking at the Boss GEB7, wondering what else is out there for EQ specifically for bass. Can be parametric or graphic, will be used for recording, already have a DI so doesn't need to have that option.

Signal chain is simple, bass - compressor - (EQ goes here) - DI box - computer.

My question may be stupid but why don't you just EQ the signal directly on the DAW ?

If you insist on using pedals I'd say the MXR M108 is a good option too, but it needs an 18V PSU.

I normally do that, especially after recording, but i'd like to have the option to take it out with me too, for live use and recording situations away from home. Also there's something nice about effects made specifically with bass in mind, which is why the GEB7 looked interesting. I know I could probably recreate the frequencies in a plugin but it's never quite the same.

The GEB7 gets the job done, and can make complex EQ curves - noticing you are in London so it's a readily available option. I started using the Boss, but eventually found it to take away more than it added (noise and kinda sterile tone). I've had the Empress for years now and it has always been great.

The nice thing live is that you can slice out a specific trouble frequency for boomy rooms and feedback issues. Really great pedal.

Ok, I asked because in the initial post you didn't mentionned the intent to use it live. Now it's mostly your budget that will make one of the above suggestions more suitable than the others. The size of the pedal could matter also.

I like the WMD parametric EQ, even if it is a little unpredictable  You've got to use ears. I personnaly use it as a 3 band mids only EQ (low mids, mid mids and high mids).
Its feature set is similar to the Empress' (minus the dedicated boost switch), only smaller.
I have a guide for the frequency values depending on the position of the knobs, should you need them.

if you put a 1u 31 band eq in your amp's effects loop you can dial in exactly what you need live. for the studio I would stick to the software since you don't mention the amp in the signal chain, make this another piece that you need live that you don't in the studio.

I have a GEB7 an while I like it and use it where it's needed, it does add noise that I would not want in a studio setting.

I recommend the Boss EQ-20.

It sounds great with bass or guitar, and you can save 9 of your favorite curves.
I have presets specifically for passive & active basses, and having the ability to switch between a preset and the sliders gives you the ability to dramatically change between two EQ curves in the same song.
You can have one sound for the verses, and another for the chorus or intro/ending.
