Because of existing hearing damage I have to use IEM’s so I come prepared with a fast and relatively simple setup...
If I’m not using my bands system, I show up with a plastic storage bin. Inside I have a small mixer with
1) an input for my separate direct bass signal,
2) a mic I run to the guitarists speaker, and
3) a line-in from the FOH. I ask the FOH guy to run me mostly vocals and some bass drum.
I’m in control of my own domain. I used to simply run wired IEM’s from a Phones out jack. But, Ive been using my Sennheiser wireless more and more from the left and right main XLR main outs. I now leave the Sennheiser in the box too - underneath the mixer, connected with 1’ XLR jumpers, since it doesn’t need tweaking. Our singer got a Sennheiser wireless pack so she can siphon my signal.
At the end of the show I don’t even unplug the mic or my direct line from my mixer. I just wrap ‘em up, sit ‘em on the mixer and close up the box so it’s no time to pack up or setup for the next show.
