I had High C Corelli and it was great. I have a Low B Helicore and it is dead and lifeless like all Helicores I have tried. The Thomastiks really speak well.

I have some superflexibles on mine and they sound much better than the originals. Although I'm convinced that most any string would sound better than the originals. lemur-music.com is a good place to get strings, as well as uptonbass. lemur offers all of the individual strings as well as solo strings if you end up needing more advanced tunings.

I've got a question as well -- what are all of you ergo owners using for recording your bass? Mine's running through a GK150S, and I've got an sm57 on the amp and a Nady ribbon mic about a foot back. I've got plenty of bass "boom" and with a little compression I'd have a solid bass sound. But I'm losing some of the "uprighty-ness" of the sound. I've tried moving the ribbon mic between the amp and the bass, to get more of the string's sounds directly, but I'm thinking that I'd need a condenser to pick it up more accurately.

What are the rest of you using to record your Ergo?

Have you tried going direct to the board from the GK? how close and at what angle do you have that 57? perhaps you could pull both mics back to get a more "live" or "roomy" sound. Is the room that you are recording in completely dead? perhaps going to a more open room would liven things up as well. You might also try to get a mic close to the bass itself to get the natural dynamics from your playing and mix that with your amped tracks. I'd love to hear some clips of your recordings.

I've gone direct and it sounds "different." It pulls much more of the "flubby" sound which normally sounds thin, but I haven't tried that combined with a microphone. That might sound really good with the ribbon about a foot or two back.

The sm57 is against the grill at 45 degrees. Ribbon is straight up about 2 ft back. It captures more of the room sound but I need to mess with placement to make sure I'm not snagging any "boominess" on some notes.

The room is quite lively, as it's my "stuff" room. Paintings/canvas on the walls, shelves up & down the wall 45 degrees away from the monitors. I'm thinking a ld condenser might help pick up some of the room sound and the highs, but that experimentation will have to wait until a few paychecks :D

I'm going to mess with recording this weekend (need to remember to bring my good headphones home from work), and see if I end up with anything that sounds good.

to all Ergo users, I'm trying to find one of those NEET longbow cases because I'm soon to either buy a used 4 string or order a new one. I'm having a very hard time finding the 64 inch one. I can only find the 70 inch one online. does anyone have any current links to the 64 inch longbow case? thanks

Has anyone tried, done or seen the Ergo Bass with a
Yamaha SVB-100/200 EUB frame(the silhouette frame
outline of an URB)?

Can this be done using the SVB-200 frame?

How can this be attached to neck/body transition?
(I don't have access to an Ergo so I don't
know if anything can be attached.)

I like the Ergo for its price and sound(mp3 samples on
the web site) and would like to buy one, but the looks/
aesthetics are, well "Plain".

I saw someone do this on a Dean upright using Yamaha
SVB-100 frame on ebay a few weeks ago and it raise the aesthetics to a 9. (The owner told me it cost $400 just
for the frame,:eek: )

Also, does anyone know which EUB bass has the closest
sound to an URB; the NS Wav4/ Ergo?

I know there's a lot of questions here, but I'm crossing over
from EB.

Well I just purchased a (barely) used 4 string Ergo from a fellow TBer and should have it in my hands by the end of the week. I can't wait!! I'll be sure to post my thoughts about it once its in my hands. I also recently purchased a used K&K Pure preamp to go with it. hopefully, at least for now, that should work out well. I may down the road go with a Fishman Platinum Pro.

Well I received my Ergo and i'm really enjoying it. But there are a couple of things that are really bothering me. my piezo is picking up almost every vibration on the bass and stand. i mean when i'm actually playing its not a big deal. but kind of going along with it, have any of you had problems with bad string "thump" whenever you pluck the A, D, and G strings? the worst is when I pluck the A and I get an almost unbearably loud thump from the E string. i've already shifted the bridge around to get an even volume, but thump really has me annoyed. any tips? Also

edit: I should mention I still have the stock strings on them. Would getting a better set of strings possibly alleviate my problem. I've been really eying a set of Corellis.

I have no problem with a thump. It is an upright bass, made of wood, it should be more pecussive than a BG.
New strings help a lot. I put my spirocores on my new seven string within about 30min. of getting it.

The seven string really puts out a lot of acoustic sound, I did a recording with a mic in front of it, one on the speaker and a direct from my amp and got a great sound.

Yea I know how piezos are. I have a few other instruments with them. Its funny you mention technique. When I play with more of an upright technique, i get more of the thump. its when I play with more of an electric bass guitar technique, that I get less. Maybe it will be less obvious during rehearsal with a full band.

if you haven't already, read the Ergo megathread. I just purchased a used one. I still need to replace the stock strings (recommended for a more "upright-like" tone). I like my ergo. its compact, extremely light, and plays well. I chose it over the wav mainly for the price, but also because its neck is set up a little more like a traditional upright. it goes from a rounded neck to a block where you would usually transition to the thumb position, where as that is lacking on the WAV. while it does look "plain" compared to a WAV (btw I like the look of it over the wav), i think the tone more than makes up for it. you might want to fill out your profile. you might live somewhere near an Ergo player and could possibly try one out in person.
sorry i can't help you on the yamaha brace question. I guess its possible, but you would probably have to some heavy modifications for it work, none of which (I think) would be worth it.
