Double Bass Ergo megathread part II

Any idea what kind of strings these could be them since the color scheme doesn't match the DiAddario's they were sold to me as?6

Maybe the Corelli 370f set would work but need to find out if a low b is available and the correct size.

Also you 5er Ergo players what string setup are u using. Bowing is not a concern just finger work?

I finally received the 5 string I ordered from Jesse, and it was worth the wait. He builds a beautiful instrument. I ordered mine in the Burst finish which actually was a bit darker than what was on his website, but I like it even better. I'm just using the stock strings right now and they sound pretty good. Being an electric bass player for over 40 years, and now getting into upright is an interesting challenge, but the comfort of this bass makes it fun to re-learn. Jesse is one talented guy, and I wish him all the success he deserves for making instruments like these affordable to us working stiffs.

I got my bass yesterday. and I gotta say, this thing was very much worth the wait. the thing is damn near perfect even down to the color of the wood.

I think I might replace the stand however, the one that's currently on there seems a bit wobbly, especially on an 8 string. any input on a good stand?

Got them IDed, they are DiAdarrio Orc lights light I was told I was just looking at the wrong place and above the blue with gold wrap at the solid gold. Ok so I messed up........

Still have to fine a string to use as a Low B.

Mix and match can be costly.
Maybe you'd better get a five string set of the same type.
Corellis are thin, but a low B is very expensive I think.
($76 apiece from Bob G. and the whole set is $179)

Just placed my order. Classic 4 string. Also have a german bow coming from Gullihur. I have an old GK 150 watt combo, what else will a be needing? I'm just starting out on upright, coming from neglecting my 5 string electric. And yes, I have an instructor.

Boy, it's gonna be a long 6-8 weeks.

I'm looking for a case for my new 8-string. anyone know of something that will work? I definitely want a hard case that's lined, so I don't have to wrap my bass up before I put it into the case.

I just received mine-8 string (corsed) in "classic" finish. It's absolutely beautiful, but it is my first upright of any kind and after (attempting) to play for a few hours yesterday I can tell I have A LOT of practice ahead of me. My intonation/left hand technique actually seems ok (playing fretless bass guitar off and on for several years), but my right hand technique is AWFUL. I just can't seem to get a consistant sound out of my plucking. Hopefully this will come in time.

Check out Rufus Reid's instructional DVD, it has a lot of good info including his take on right hand technique.

Hi everyone!

First post here after a long time lurking and researching the Ergo Bass here at TB. Very thankful for the accumulated knowledge in both megathreads.

So, I finally took the plunge and put in an order with Jesse earlier this month for a 4 string in classic finish, with med/low action.

I play in a Hawaiian ukulele ensemble, and I'm looking forward to adding an electric upright to the band's sound. I can't wait to see my bandmate's faces when I show up at rehearsal with the bass.

I hope the wait is not too long.

Wow. I got mine!

Workmanship is pretty good. Very simple, elegant instrument. The classic stain is very nice.

Got the medium-low action, and playability is great. One concern is the depth of the groove in the nut for the G string. I think it might be too low, although I'm not getting any buzzing on the lower registers.

At any rate, this is my first "upright" bass type instrument, so I definitely need to work on my right hand technique.

Since I'm not bowing (yet), I think I can get away with my intonation. I think my experience playing fretless has helped.

I've been playing with my SWR LA15 practice amp, and not sure if I like the sound (treble set to 0, with mid and bass set to flat). The Ergo sounds too muddy.

Rather than inserting a preamp in the signal chain, will probably upgrade to a GK MB150S soon, as I hate the weight of the LA15.

I'm getting the Plano Airliner rod case for transporting the bass to gigs and rehearsals.

My Ergo arrived yesterday. It's a very nice instrument. 8 weeks seems almost exactly the time from my order to delivery (plus a couple of weeks I was out of town).

Just bought a 6 string (0472) used from a fellow I play with.
Excellent tone and action.
My basis for comparision is my 1969 Pollmann Busetto.
Running her through a Minimark and a L.R. Baggs para acoustic DI, haven't plugged her into the SVT and Avatar 2x12 yet.
Used her yesterday for a two hour bebop jam (all real book stuff), haven't used a 6'er for nearly a decade....

I just found out my wife ordered me a 4 string trans black for my birthday. Should arrive in about two weeks. I am so completely surprised, and pleased beyond words, by this. I have no idea what to get her for her birthday which would compare. Can't wait to start learning this new instrument. I will keep y'all posted.
