Double Bass Erich Pfretzschner model 892

Does anyone know anything about this instrument maker, or better yet, this particular model? There is a model 892 carved flatback for sale [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] within a reasonable driving distance and I really would like to do some meaningful research before arranging an audition.

Any info would help, a website or homepage in particular would be great. Thanks in advance!

A full forum search shows this is the third thread with questions about the Erich Pfretzschner instruments over the last couple of years, yet not a single reply other than this one. Admittedly I am a complete noob when it comes to double basses, so if there if there something I should know someone please fill me in.

I have scoured the internet trying to find any information on this maker, but it seems as if I am chasing my tail. Anyone know any enlightening information they care to share? If there is a dirty little secret, someone please let me in on it, lol

Cheers!!!

Student model stringed instruments. Internet search shows the name was somehow associated with "International Strings, Inc. (name they imported under?)

internationalstrings.com used to be the website, but it's down. The owner of that domain name is F.E. Olds and Sons, Inc. It seems that they slap a German name on their student model basses.

Thanks very much DrBassie. I found that much, but that is where the information becomes quite obscure and suspiciously circular.
I didn't get a sense I would be getting a steal by buying this bass, but before wasting someone's time here at Christmas, I at least wanted to be somewhat informed before scheduling an audition.

Not sure I want a flat back bass anyway. Thanks again for your researched reply.
