ESP MusicCord

Anyhoo... there's no way in the world someone could do a test. It really sounds like everyone has made up their mind already....Seriously. I said the difference was subtle, and to half of everyone that responded that's nothing...oh well. Whoa is me.

It doesn't really matter anyway. A cord will not make you better...but neither will 'empirical evidence'. Whatever works.

I could do a test. I just won't spend $150 on something I don't need and can't recoup my losses on to do said test. BTW, I've done research at the bachelor's and master's levels.

If it was only a subtle difference why get so defensive? Too many gigs have you too cranky? Sounds like work to me... Some of us have fun with playing. Maybe take up a hobby like chess... Or electrical engineering maybe? :p

I thought i was relying on my ears, on experience, not at all on faith.
What you're missing is that you have faith in your ears. I mean no offense by that statement. It's important to understand that without proper controls, a person's ears are not able to make an objective assessment in this case, as has been described in detail previously, due to the filtering provided by the brain before we consciously "hear" anything.
To the contrary, i was pretty faithless going into my testing. I was completely expecting it to be bunk. I think your statement inaccurate, if you are putting me in the second group.
Again meaning absolutely no offense with this, but the fact is you were predisposed to listen for a difference. Even though your conscious mind was skeptical, by being aware of the controversy and the claims, you were preparing your mind to try to find differences between them--and it did. That's how our brains work.

Pretentious?

Of course! :)

I'm just shocked at all the attention that's being paid to this. I bought a cable I had heard about, it made my rig sound a little better, so I thought I would post as a service. 100 people come out of the woodwork to tell me that there's no way I could be hearing any kind of difference.

My point is: WHATEVER. I play nickel strings, I'm sure 1000 people out there could tell me why steel strings are better. I'm sure some you prefer 12's or 15's to 10's or some of you prefer 4's to 5's or whatever. It works for me (note the bold). I'm not saying that it will be for everyone, but I am entitled to an opinion, right? My opinion (note the bold) is that this cable works for ME--which does not mean everyone should use it. It works for me. I never said that you were less of a bassist for not using one of these cords...it works for me...it works for me...

Would have responded last night but I had sex. Twice.

And once this morning.
I was going to call this an automatic win at first, but I'm afraid we'll need to see pics of your partner to determine if it's a win...that is...if you indeed had a partner.....:hmm:

:D

That was a joke, BTW. Of course it's a win! You certainly have me beat, trapped in this crappy hotel till Monday.

Anyway, back on track...PD, the problem with you performing said service is not that we don't believe you, but that we don't believe the company, nor do we believe it should cost $150. If you could dpulicate what the ESP cord does with $20 worth of parts, wouldn't you rather do that?

Welcome to TalkBass!

There are alot of intelligent people on here with very little common sense.

Unfortunately you don't know who are.

And of course those people won't understand this response, just like they haven't understood the others...

Any audible difference?

Of course! :)

Not the same thing. Sure strings sounds different as do different size speakers. Besides hearing the differece, we can also point out the mechanics what makes them different because the differences are measurable and therefore evidence can be gathered. It's just plain physics. How a power cord could effect the sound, is beyond me (unless the comparison cord would be broken).
