I actually make a living based on engineering. Scientific measurements, testing, repeatabilty, facts, and confirmed theories.

Might as well come out and call us a bunch of D-fools.

(Of course, engineers are the ones who designed your amps, so what do we know about sound or power??)

I know who design the products that bass players use. But you
also don't see me going around saying or insinuating that those who design the products that bass players use have some issues gong on upstairs.

Jauqo, I don't think anyone has any issue with you or any other happy customer, but with the product and the marketing. Check out my last post and some of Bob's and Jimmy's for a few of the reasons. And, as it has been noted before, nobody claims that anyone's hearing is bad, just that we are all human and prone to mistakes, something I really don't see any reason to discuss here. Honestly, I think the intentions here are pretty clear and generally have very little to do with you, IMHO. No offence at all, but your experiences with the cable aren't about to change an engineer's view of how a power cord works.

I agree with you but with all due respect there is the air from a few here thinking that some of us really have fooled ourselves into thinking that we are hearing something that really isn't there.

Well said.

Engineers designed the power stations that generate power, which involves some pretty complex electrical theory. They designed the power transmission system, which transmits the power for miles from the power generating station to your local electrical utility's substation. They designed the substation. They designed the street-level power distribution system. They designed the transformer onyour pole outside your house or business. They designed the incoming service wire and meter at your house or business. They designed the service panelboard at your house or business. They designed the wiring scheme used inside your house or business.

So after all that, I'd say engineers seem to have a pretty good understanding of how a power cord works.

Some people's egos are so huge, they think everything is an attack on their personal worth and abilities. They can't see anything objectively, or read statements at face value, because it has to be about them, and they have to defend against the "haters".

There's no point trying to engage with somebody like that.

No one is doing that.

You are assuming that our examples of how auditory and related brain processes work is some type of attack, it isn't. It's simply restating scientific fact; be it on how the brain processes sound and the related phenomena of brand expectation or scientific laws of electrical conductors.

Are you assuming that the science is wrong because you hear a difference?

If anything you hearing a difference only adds more evidence to brand expectation/psychology aspect in the way our brain process information through the lens of biases via marketing or what have you.

It's the same thing when you get someone that swears by the name brand laundry detergent because it's more expensive and has a prettier label. It's still the same damn thing; chemically speaking. There is no difference except one says "Tide" and one says "Best Way".

Your words, not mine. It really is hard to get around that conclusion, but if you take offence from other people doubting you then I'm afraid it is your problem. Again, no offence intended, but do you want everyone to forget what they know based on your claims (which are very hard for us to verify)? No one is on your case, if the discussion offends you then that is unfortunate but will not change a whole lot.

Peace

Martin

Jauqo, you have a human brain with all the same processing as the rest of us. You are hearing something that is not there.

There is not anything wrong with your hearing (nor your brain), and it is not an attack. In fact, there'd be some pretty serious issues going on if your brain didn't try and patterns, meanings and messages in all the stuff that passes into your ears.

To those of you who hear a difference: great, I don't care, and I'm glad you are happy with your purchase. It works for you, fine.
What I have a problem with is the owner's explanation of how it works, which is patently and utterly ridiculous.
Amps don't run on AC, and even if they did, the AC power we use to run them is single-phase, which is immune to phase distortion, which is what he claims his cable takes care of. His explanation is a pure fantasy, and that is simply fact, not opinion.
No offense, but that is the reality of the situation.
If it indeed does something for your sound, it is most definitely NOT doing it for the reasons he outlines in the videos.

I find it funny how some in this thread have such a hard core issue with those of us who hear a difference in tone with the ESP power cord.

It's even more funny when some here challenge the level or quality of our hearing. Some of us actually make a living based on the quality of our hearing.

Might as well just come out and call us a bunch of D-fools.

We're not challenging the quality of your hearing. We are challenging the assumption implicit in your claims that your hearing is not subject to the same processes as the rest of humanity.

Did you do the ABX test yet? Did you watch the video about the McGurk effect? Please, just TRY for once to understand what people are actually saying without thinking that it is some sort of personal attack.

While this doesn't isn't about power cables I thought I'd share this.
I just played two nights at an outdoor deck venue. It's a venue where I have to rely on my amp 'cause there's no PA support for the bass. The 1st night my bass , although loud enough, sounded dull and lifeless. Didn't seem like it was carrying well. The 2nd night I used some new cheapie instrument cables from GFS. The tone came alive. Highs were sweeter, more midrange focus & improved lows. Immediately I thought it was the cables but it reality it was because the air was a lot less humid on the 2nd night then the 1st.A lot less humid! Everything sounded better!

Among GFS's cable selection is what they term Low Impedance cable, which I assume is meant to be low capacitance. Cable capacitance can make a rather large difference.

I don't think Jauqo or Roy Vogt are taking this thread as a personal attack against them. They are just stating they hear a difference when using the ESP. If everyone listening to this cord thinks they hear a difference and they are really not, it is definitely a Magic Cord.

So, I'm wondering if the Taralabs cable I spent 2 bills on at the L A Bass Exchange is pixie dust, too.
With passives it might have low enough capacitance to make a difference compared to some other cables. But $200 worth? No. The absolute best wire available goes for no more than a couple of bucks a foot plus five bucks each for connectors. As for their ad copy, pure hokum. What matters is resistance, capacitance and shielding percentage. That's it. All the rest is pseudo-scientific gobbledy-gook, which either assigns mechanical attributes to an electronic device or cites factors that only matter at radio frequencies, not audio frequencies. In short, snake oil.
It's even more funny when some here challenge the level or quality of our hearing. Some of us actually make a living based on the quality of our hearing.
I make my living based on the quality of my hearing. I also know enough not to rely on that and that alone where anything audio related is concerned, because I not only know what I hear, I also know why I hear it, and in many cases why I don't, no matter what my ears may indicate to the contrary.

I think Roy's posts show that he understands where we are coming from, and I truly appreciate his willingness to do additional testing. My last post was not directed to Roy.

A random thought: if the power source doesn't seem to matter when it gets to the audio gear, then why use power conditioners in studio and live sound racks?

We're not discussing a power source, but a power cord.

And many of us don't use power "conditioners," either. In 30+ years in pro audio and music, I've never had a need for one, either live or in studios.

It just makes no sense at all. Imagine you have a cable that is full of magic pixie dust that adds "awesomeness". Would doubling its length from wall plug to amp increase its awesomeness?

Alternately - is it claiming that it can transmit awesomeness in its purest form from the plug on the wall? What if I open up the power point and connect those wires directly into my amp using no cable at all - Is that doing the same thing? Is it claiming that the wiring in my house is capable of transmitting awesomeness but a standard cable isn't?

Is it just ignoring the fact that the electricity coming out of my power socket does not get here using kilometres of pixie dust cable?

Dammit, after reading this thread I'm no longer convinced that my custom engraved truss rod cover really does make my bass sound better! :D

One thing I do know, is I am sereously tired of reading!!!!!!!!
I'm out!
