I ain't been a member of this site long, and the rudeness here makes me wanna quit. Maybe I will, maybe I won't.

Even if the guy is wrong, there's no need to be rude to him.

Enjoy your cable "cybersnyder." If it sounds good to you, fine.

They're not trying to be rude, it's an engineer thing. I've done it myself and now I can recognize it.

I'm just curious why so many people think that if you hear a difference, it's there. The old "why don't you try it for yourself?" thing. If it's proven that it can't make any difference, and I heard a difference anyways, I'd just come to the conclusion that I was wrong. It doesn't matter who says they can hear it.
Ya, I don't get it either. Maybe it's because I've been wrong so much that I'm used to it, but if someone knows more about a subject than I do, I would actually rather they correct me so I don't end up looking like a rube elsewhere.

But human nature being what it is, I guess some folks have a hard time with it. Oh well...

I think it's more to do with making sure innocent bystanders don't get ripped off.

I don't understand this stance at all. You get 30 days to try it out and if you don't like it, you get a full refund. And it's not like you're signing up for a cable of the month club that you can never unsubscribe from. I'm actually offended by your choice of the term "rip off".

You shouldn't be. If something doesn't work as advertised, then it's a ripoff, even if they offer a refund. It's a little less of a ripoff if they offer a refund, but it's still deceitful and dishonest, and offering a refund doesn't make it less so.

Shouldn't take cheap shots at our fellow bass players. No one on the blog ever said go out and buy the ESP.

Rich bought two of these cords and spent probably $300.00 on them. He's HAPPY with his purchase. That's great Rich!

Jimmy was smart enough to borrow this power cord and try it out. He claims it did nothing and feels it's a waste of money. Jimmy saved $150.00 That's a smart man!!!!

Mark said earlier he also heard NO difference but was going to do some further evaluating. I'm wondering if he'll return it for a refund, or just say screw it and keep it!!!!

Well I'm otta here for a while. I actually have a gig at the Ritz Carlton. Later my friends....

Simplistic explanation of how your power supply works: A power cable brings in AC power from the wall. This is applied to a transformer that steps the voltage up or down depending on how many windings is on each side of the transformer. The resulting AC waveform is applied to a rectifier. A rectifier takes the regular sinusoidal wave and thru diodes "flips" the negative part positive resulting in a wave from that looks like a bunch of continuous humps from 0v to max. This wave form is applied to large caps that charge up and "store" the energy resulting in a DC level at approximately the level of the peak of the previous waveform. This DC level becomes the RAIL voltage applied to the amplifier. The rail voltage powers the actual amplifier section and basically limits how large the amplified signal can get but isn't really part of the signal path. The previously mentioned caps are responsible for how clean the DC is. There isn't even a real physical connection between the power cord and the amp because it's coupled across the transformer. As long as it can supply enough current and voltage (power) to supply the needs of the power circuit, it has NOTHING else to do with the quality of your signal. 99.9% of this is simply based on the gauge (how big around) the copper wire in the power cable is. The rest is total snake oil. The power cable has no ability to "clean up" sound because it is simply supplying a route from your wall plug to the input power transformer.

If this thread had been titled "Playing Barefoot" and Cybersnyder claimed that his rig' sounded clearer, deeper, whatever while playing with no footwear - I don't think this discussion would have lasted so long or been so polarizing. There may have been some chuckling, chiding or sarcastic banter - but it wouldn't have become the debate that this thread is. (Heck, I like playing barefoot myself!)

The reason this thread is so heated, impassioned, etc... is that a product is being sold! Sure, Cybersnyder isn't getting paid anything, but the original post is certainly playing a role in selling more ESP Musicords! And, I quote:

I know I'm going to get slammed for this....

... Maybe there's room for a lot of improvement in a $50 power cord, I don't know, but I do know that the MusicCord is all it's cracked up to be.

(I used to think it was snake oil too.)

Is my "playing barefoot" example irrelevant? Maybe,... but playing without shoes is going to have the same scientific affect on your amp! The difference? There's not a company charging you between $50 - $200 to pull off your socks & shoes and tell you your amp sounds better.

No, ripoff would be getting a bunch of people to buy VT pedals and Markbass combos then ditching them to go to SVT baby. No refund on the VT / Markbass.

(that was in jest in case the sarcasm doesn't transmit over the web.)

Jesus man please don't highlight one sentence out of the entire thread and disertate on that. If I have to run everything past a lawyer before I post, then I'm out. Read in context please. Read the other posts.

Actually, I think the ripoff is never being offered an endorsement deal by either Tech 21 or Markbass. Ampeg doesn't have to offer me one because they're Ampeg and I've used them for almost 35 years, but I did a hell of a lot for both Markbass and Tech 21 to sell LMII's and VT's. Maybe I shouldn't have trashed other products they make ;)

You really did deserve an endorsement deal. ;)

No lawyers, easy man! :) I take it you no longer stand behind the statement: "...I do know that the MusicCord is all it's cracked up to be."?

My point is (and why I highlighted what I did from your original post) that it's not just about your liking the product (which of course, is totally fine!), it's claiming that the product does what the manufacturer claims.

It's all good man! You see the difference, right?

If it makes you feel better, we can quote the entire post unabridged:

I know I'm going to get slammed for this....

On a whim I bought a ESP MusicCord, not the Pro model, just the "regular" model. It arrived very quickly via FedEX and I only had enough time for an A/B test with my daughter changing the power cords. She didn't know any of the claims for the MusicCord, so that's as close to a double blind test as I can get.

First off, it is built completely solid. It's even more robust than I would expect for the price. This is like the cables we used in the Army for tactical nukes, just prettier.

Turned my back and had her plug one in and played. Sounds good, that's the baseline. The next cord was plugged in and I immediately noticed a thicker, fuller, richer tone. Even my daughter said it sounds better. She said it shakes the house more, if I remember he exact quote. Went back to the A/B test again to see if I was imagining it, but again you could easily tell which was the MusicCord and which was the standard power cable.

Will the drunk guy in the back of the room notice? No. But if you invest in tone via basses, strings, amps, speakers, etc the MusicCord may give you that extra bit of tone that you may think is worth it. Honestly, I don't know if it means that the MusicCord is that good or if standard cords are that bad. Maybe there's room for a lot of improvement in a $50 power cord, I don't know, but I do know that the MusicCord is all it's cracked up to be.

(I used to think it was snake oil too.)

The information is the same.
