EDIT: I hate revising history so I'm not going to change the above post, but I did another A/B test last night and both myself and the people listening heard a difference. I agree with the EEs that a power cord should not make much of a difference. Scientifically, the most likely reason is that subconsciously I'm playing differently. Perhaps it's just the equivalent of a lucky rabbit's foot, but there does seem to be a difference and that difference seems to convey to others that hear a difference. Science or placebo? I don't know, all I know is there seems to be a difference that others can hear.
Try doing a comparison where someone else is changing the power cord and you don't know which one you're playing.
How and what would you measure?
No, I don't think that conclusion was drawn. I think the conclusion was that if it makes you feel better to use it, go ahead and use it, but that doesn't mean it works as advertised.I'm a latecomer to this, and I only had time to read up to page 20. Was the conclusion something like 'Respect other peoples' beliefs'?

This. I don't think there was ever a 'respect those who believe in flying pink unicorns' consensus.

Wha?!?!?
You mean there isn't?!?!??![]()
Rich, I just read your addendum. And I think it pretty well sums up the feelings of everyone on here who has these cords and truly believes they make a difference, in that you said you didn't do a proper blind test and don't intend to. And that is half the reason why my, Bob's, Spencer's and Aborgman's money is safe in our pockets and will remain there. The other half is because I think deep down you all know what the conclusion will be already, and you'd rather not deal with it.
I get it. All it cost me was a little time and $12 to send it back to you. Big deal. But I would probably feel a little differently about it if I spent $120 on one, too. I guess I thought if you saw that I couldn't tell the difference that it would make you question it more rigorously and send it back before your 30 days were up. Obviously that's not the case. So all I can tell you is have fun with them.
My bad...I didn't realize until after I posted that flying pink unicorns do exist. Here's a documentary photograph of one:

I stand corrected.
If I designed a big comfortable strap and made claims that it could improve the sustain, sweeten the highs, focused the mids, and tightened up the bottom end of your bass, would you be willing to drop $150 on one.
Well, as this thread nears its 1000th post, I think it's time we see the writing on the wall. Those of us who respect science are never going to see the value in spending any more than $10 for a power cable, and those who bought these cords are never going to be convinced that science could ever trump their ears.
I feel bad for them, though, because not only do I believe that science trumps your ears every single time (hey, I love my 810 and B-15 cabs but just like science tells you, they beam high end like crazy), I also believe engineers on the whole have way better ears than most of us, since their jobs depend on it. The idea that engineers like Bob and Bill sit on the computer interpreting data and not listening to the products they sell is absolutely insane.
So I say let's use these few remaining posts in this thread to share what we've learned. Here's what I've learned...some people have a deep-seated mistrust of science and a little too much confidence in what their ears tell them. And as long as those people exist (and they always will), ESP and Nordost and whoever will play right into their hands.
But again, just as a parting thought, I will ask you who believe the ESP cord works one question I've asked and never got an answer...if they do work, how come the amp companies aren't clamoring to develop their own versions or recommend their usage with their amps? Surely if they worked as advertised, amp manufacturers would be totally on board with them, right? They'd be stupid not to. Think about it.
David Funk.
Dave Funk also endorsed and vehemently defended the Accuswitch and we all know how that debacle ended up.
