ESP MusicCord

Last year guitarist Chris Poland(of Ohm and formerly Megadeath) was about to do a show. And a ESP power cord was hooked up to his amp. The first thing he noticed was that his sound was a little different(in a positive way). He asked not about the power cord(because he didn't even know about the company) but why was his sound sounding better. He was told that his amp had a ESP power cord plugged into it.

I am not inside Chris Poland's brain but he felt a reason to purchase a ESP power chord on the spot.

If any one wants to know what he thinks of it just contact him and ask him.

He paid for the cord on the spot and had never heard of the company. And the owner of the owner of ESP power cord had no clue who Chris Poland is.

Hmm,.. my amps sound a little different in every different room I play too. Hopefully he wasn't shocked by this phenomenon! ;) This sounds like a campfire story, sorry man!

I've had shows were I went on stage & swore that the voltage was making my amp sound better (I almost always use tube amps & they can operate a little differently at voltage extremes...). Honestly, though, I'm objective & circumspect enough to know that it's just as likely that catering was killer that day or I just saved a lot of $$$ on my car insurance - thus my elevated state of bliss. Again, you have to want to believe that 4 feet of thicker wire is going to radically change the function of 12 miles of the same.

The difference in feel is real, and is the main reason I prefer ss. :)

I would be surprised if that can't be measured in some way.

Sure it can be measured
Input signal compared to the output signal.
It can also be blind tested.

The thing is if the measurement isn't done. Or the blind test isn't instrumented to test for a "feel" then what come's about is users who don't believe the science. They bring out some special pleading that "feel" is the difference. And it wasn't accounted for.

Scenario 2: A roadie left a half eaten Milky Way candy bar atop the amp. Chris noticed was that his sound was a little different(in a positive way). He asked why was his sound sounding better. He was told that his amp has a half-eaten Milky Way on top of it. Now at every gig Chris puts a half-eaten Milky Way on top of his amp.
The science behind the two explanations for his sounding better is equally valid.

When I became aware of the ESP Power cords like many other's in this discussion I was not only a skeptic but I was completely dismissive.......

Until I actually checked the cord and it's effect's on a amplifier out in person. There was a difference in the response of the amp and, with all levels being set the same, there was more volume. It also IMO helped bring down the noise floor from the amp. my actual experience is that the sound and response of the Amp change with the ESP power cord and changed in a way that I found useful and pleasing.

As for people saying the the cord does nothing; my experience is that it does and I have actually tried the cord unlike most if not all of the harshest critics on this board. The thing I find interesting is the idea that a power cord can effect the performance of a amp is accepted in the high end audiophile world but is met with resistance in the musical instrument world

I'm sure he knows that rooms sound different from one to the next.

And I'm sure when he was going back and forth with the ESP cord and his standard cord that at the end of the day he felt that he made the best decision for his purposes.

Kat's can talk all day long about how they feel about the ESP power cord but at the end of the day I could care less about who purchases one and who doesn't.

Those that did get one, got it because they wanted to and the reason is there's not of ours.

Thanks for sharing that Jauqo!

"Wow" I'm impressed with the people on this forum. Lots of guys with electrical degrees and electrical back grounds. Heck I'm just a bass player, the only thing I know about electric current is when I get shocked on occasion from my mic while touching my strings.

I have a thought..... why don't we all go out and purchase an ESP power cord, test it in the real world and then do another forum on it.....

Many high end "audiophiles" also don't know what power cords do, so they also accept magical claims. Especially if it gives something to brag about, I suppose.

If the cable really makes that much difference, it's most certainly easily measurable. I can't speak to the ESP cable specifically but I have demoed many other expensive power cables and I've never found one that made any kind of measurable difference to anything. Or any sonic difference for that matter. My skepticism on this subject is well founded as I have direct experience with this type of power cable.

Perhaps I'll buy one and evaluate it with both listening tests and measurements.

Anyone interested in me doing that?

Seamonkey, do you have any experience playing? Do you know what is meant by "feel"? Just honest, friendly questions! :)

"Feel" does exist, I'm afraid. For instance- a tube amp warms up (or gets too warm) and begins to compress and distort differently during a set/session. This changing dynamic response 'feels' different to the player & they adjust (often subconsciously) as they perform. This isn't that hard to grasp, right?

So I told everybody what my experiences with the cord were and your dismissing what I said? To be frank you work for QSC and I understand why you might have a issue with the ESP cord in concept but just like I don't dismiss your training and experience don't dismiss what actually happened to me with the cord

Thanks for posting your hands on review of the power cord!!! I might purchase one in the near future and if I don't notice a difference I will just return it. Just waiting for my Vovox speaker cables to arrive first.

If anyone bothered to read ESP return policy here it is.

Returns Policy: Essential Sound Products Satisfaction Guarantee

Bill Fitzmaurice doesn't work for QSC.

This is a claim that should be EASILY measurable. Why then are there no such measurements available, by you, or any other user of this cable, or (perhaps most importantly), from the manufacturer?

Bill makes speaker cabs, Bob makes amps. Both would have something to gain by supporting this magical cord if it worked.

Seriously, if you could make a QSC amp or a BFM speaker cab sound better they'd be telling us all to rush out and buy one. It's not as if they make competing products. . . . . .
