ESP MusicCord

Bill have you tried the cable?????

Why? I'm a trained engineer, AES member, and know that power cables cannot improve the sound of the gear they're used with. And that means I'm not falling for their marketing BS.
I'm sure that in whatever your profession is that you are often exposed to people who haven't the slightest clue as to how anything related to your profession works. And I'm sure more than a few times said people have said things that make your eyes roll while you (hopefully silently) think 'How can you possibly be that stupid?' If you were a plumber, for instance, and a customer insisted on you installing blue pipes because that would make the water taste better you'd have a hard time not laughing in their face. The notion that a power cord can make an amp work better is just as silly. And if you too were a trained engineer and AES member you'd know it and never give a second thought to wasting your money on it. But you're not, so you ask someone who is, like me, or Bob Lee or Mark Reccord. We've got nothing to gain by lying to you about this cable nonsense, whereas ESP and the like have nothing to gain by telling you the truth. Believe who you will.

I don't know if these endorsers get paid by ESP to have their pictures and cable reviews on the ESP website. Maybe they actually like the product and are giving an honest opinion about the power chord!
Facts:
(a) Famous, successful musicians are just as vulnerable/prone to being fooled by their own brains as the rest of us. Being a well-known musician does not automatically mean anything about their scientific understanding, or the "infallibility" of their ears.
(b) Some people like to be in high visibility, as an ego thing, and that's part of why they are happy to provide endorsements. They are "paid" by the attention they're given. Staying high-viz can keep a person's career active, and sell records.

What is the point of upgrading the power cord to 12 gauge when there is 30, 40, 50, or more feet* of 18, 20, 22, 24*........ gauge on the mains transformer?

Class D is an exception I will admit.

*Each type of amp may/will be different and I have never felt the need to strip a mains transformer to measure the length and gauge of wire, YMMV. :)

I have one and love it, but I also replaced all the household wiring, outlets, breaker box, public wiring, etc., all the way back to the turbine...

I also had my bass and amp completely rewired with oxygen free, time aligned wiring to match.

So if you buy one, your experience might be different.

Ultimately (if you make even a cursory attempt to understand how ac is utilized within an audio amplifier) - you really would just have to want to believe that there is a difference with the ESP Music Cord. And, ultimately, there's very little chance of anyone who understands ac power utilization being able to convince an individual who 'believes' otherwise. I think we all just need to accept that.

On the other side, the proponents (e.g. "believers in") of the ESP Music Cord will hopefully also understand that their faith in the product will routinely be questioned by those that better understand the technology relevant to the product.

Look, ESP obviously has the resources to develop, manufacture and market their product. Why wouldn't they use some of those resources to test their claims & produce some data. ANY data? At least, I've seen no white papers or critical data on their website. It seems the only 'science' presented on their site is in regards to conductor gauge. Have they ever looked at the wiring behind the wall plates they're plugging the ESP MusicCord into?

Here's my prediction on a non-moderated double blind test.

Oh they'll sound the same but there will be special pleading about "Feel" or some other totally made up grap term than would be claim can not be recorded or measured.

It's happening before with Tube versus Solid-State, or Tube versus VT, or other modelers, emulators, simulators. Statistically there was not clear cut identification of the amps, or what sounded better. In jumped a special pleading term "feel". Oh sure they sound and perform the same but the 'feel" is different. BS. And there's no possible way to measure "feel". Mainly because it doesn't exist.

No matter what the blind test results are there will be special pleading about some aspect of the results.

Audio forums have already done the tests. There's no difference. There is not going to be any revelation here.

Piker. I have pre-CBS* neo magnets in my wind generator, and my fingers are cryogenically treated.

Popcorn?

Someone earlier in this thread said it better but basically a good power CORD is one that works! As long as it can deliver enough current at the device's operating voltage, it's job is done and no amount of voodoo is going to make that work any better. Time aligned cryo oxygen free harmonic stabilized hooey!

The difference in feel is real, and is the main reason I prefer ss. :)

I would be surprised if that can't be measured in some way.

My question would be how does AC power directly correlate to sound quality. Also how does improving the AC power = better sound. I've heard no one say that the cord makes their amp sound worst which knowing musicians makes me skeptical.

Musicians are peculiar creatures you can replace a failing tubes or transformers in a guitarist's amp and he will swear it sounds too clean, or you can replace a bassist's high capacitance cable with a low capacitance one and he will say it sounds sterile, but somehow ESP has found a component which isn't even in the signal chain that will universally improve the sound quality of all device that it is plugged into. Hmm :hmm:

I think ESP gets by with the musicCord because it isn't that expensive comparatively speaking. If it were say a grand, I think more would be crying foul play. Because it isn't outrageously priced, they, much like high dollar instrument cable makers, get away with big claims and little or no evidence other than word of mouth.

I personally love the idea of something like a power or instrument cord improving sound. I mean why not have the cleanest signal possible? It just seems that in the little bit of research I've done, that the difference in most of these devices that we dump so much money into, whether it be cables, DAC's, sampling rates, etc have been tested and proven either indistinguishable, inaudible or have the audible difference of moving your head around a couple inches. I just can't bring myself to spend top dollar on such meager results.

You don't endorse anything, do you?

I'm actually incredibly envious of these cable manufacturers, really wish I'd thought of this. People are willing to spend the money, and I'm sure most of the customers are indeed happy with them.

Before you get to the question of "how does improving the AC power = better sound," you first need to resolve the threshold question, "does this product 'improve' the AC power?" I've never seen one iota of evidence that a power cable can "improve" AC power.

No Jack I don't have any endorsements. As far as musicians who purchased the power cable being happy, we may never really know. The majority of responses were from non-users pretty much saying that an upgraded AC cord cannot improve your tone....
