Essex Bass Competition!

Here is my three year old SX BG-205 Ash.

Stock except for wooden pot knobs and replacement Dimarzio 250k pots; two of the stock pots crapped out on me about three weeks ago. The tone pot quit first, but it was working in 'wide open' mode for the longest. It has a set of Curt Mangan round nickels on it - http://www.curtmangan.com/

I also shielded it with copper foil tape and grounded the bridge to kill some noise.

WOW! very nice! I myself would prefer black pickup covers, but that looks nice! I love the Olympic White body. I wish they still had those!

How'd it go with the neck switch? I want to put my 5 string '75C neck on my LPB '62 5er jazz body, but it looks like I'll have to do a bit of modifications, such as redrilling the neck bolts and some minor sanding.

Didn't actually do the mods myself! I bought it as is from a fellow TB'er (jmb7183). He said that he had the holes filled and re-drilled and I can't tell the difference! he did a great job and it's a killer bass. On par with my 61RI Jazz I built myself. I guess the Audere pre has a lot to do with that!

I will get more photos tongiht

I just realized: I have an SX bass, a Trace Elliott amp, a Hartke cab and a Behringer effects processor. Is this the most hated combination on Talkbass? :)

Nah....except for the SX and Behringer, for my small gigs I play a Trace Elliot AH350SMX head into a Hartke Transporter 210....Man, some of that Hartke stuff sounds great...super growly and agressive....I can't get the some kind of tone out of my Ampeg...nice combo and great looking SX (love the blocks)

I'll play as well!

Here's my modded SX body with Epiphone neck and Crel pickups (now, not in the picture)

And here's a little slap soundclip I made, nothing fancy, just to show the bass's tone (you may need to turn the volume UP):

I'm sure I've forgotten some of the work I've done..

SX Jazz 5 - new pickups + added a MM pickup, new pots/wiring/shielding/knobs, stock bridge (have a better replacement, but I kinda like/got used to the 15mm spacing), inlayed the neck, new headstock shape (had the old ugly one)...

SX SR5 - Duncan Basslines pickup + preamp, pots/wiring/shielding, etc

Fullerton Pbass - pretty much stock, new DR strings, replacing the bridge, pickup, etc

I also have a Scorpion which I'm putting the blocked fretless neck on.

Live (from the board) sound clips here (no studio stuff yet - starting this/next week).
