Essex Bass Competition!

This *is* a competition thread right?

So how do we know when win? lol, and what are we competing for? should there be a poll on who has the top SX bass after everybody has finished submitting there basses in?! hehehe...

I say after we get a fair amount of basses in we should vote somebody as the top dog :)

anyway here is me at a gig awhile back when... notice the cool knobs :)

you got to wait quite awhile if you want my bass submission :( since i can't really submit a real picture of what its like now, because I am far far away from home at the moment... but do it without me... monthly SX top dog of the month poll haha.

im fairly new to TB, so i have a question. If i were to do it monthly, id have to open a new thread for it each month right? because as far as i know, you cant vote twice on a poll in one thread. unless its possible to delete the current poll in a thread and post a new poll in the same thread. if anyone knows how to do this, PM me so the thread doesnt get horribly off topic. thanks.

this thread needs more clips!

I just got my SX 57 P today...haven't had a chance to do anything but change the strings to TI Jazz Flats. Here's a crappy clip of me playing a song called Magoo that my friend Joe wrote. I will be posting pics as soon as I can to join the "pimp my sx" contest. Maybe if I come up with a sob story about how I adopt orphans and baby kittens Mtv will come and pay for it all  (If I let 'em in that is)

Where do you get Delano pups? I've been very interested in these.

And my .02... The White J with DiMarzios and B&B....Awesome!

You can order them through Fred Bolton @ [email protected] he builds bee basses www.beebasses.com.

they come from Germany www.delano.de so be ready for a long and painful wait. They better be the baddest pups on the planet for as long as I have waited for them.:scowl: :rollno:

I think what ill do is wait til the 1st of the month.

April 1st, ill put a poll up. Ill put each persons bass on there, and you guys can pick your favorite. Ill give the voting 2 weeks. Any posts after April 1st wont be included in the poll. But keep posting your SXs, because on March 1st ill make a new poll for all the basses posted during April.

Quick question to you all. Where are all of you getting your pickguards? I have heard Fender guards don't fit. Are you all tracing your stock guards and having them custom cut? Or is there a site that has SX guards? Just wondering since I want to upgrade my SX Jazz and P bass.

All you have to do is open up the neck pocket with a file/dremel to make the guards fit.

That said, one of mine has a modified All Parts guard, and the othere was a full on custom job done by pickguardian.

Was the All Parts guard a Jazz or P? How much was the Pickguardian custom job? I also wonder if Pickguardian has done enough SX guards that maybe they have a template for SX's by now, I'll have to ask them.

Both basses are P basses, and pictured in post numbe 6, page one of this thread.

Lot's of guys on here have done J basses too. There might be an issue around the control plate on a J. Ask around, I'm sure someone here can fill you in if you have a J.

The pickguardian Celluloid Tortoise guard was $60. Tony made the guard using the stock pickguard, and a Fender pickguard as a template. I wanted to have Fender sized p/u openings, as the SX P pickups are just a touch bigger than stock Fender units. I'd bet it would be less money if you went with a less expensive material than the Celluloid Tortoise.
