If they are used, it's for cheap pallets and cheap paper products. What does that tell you?

I hadn't really given it much thought.

Google search told me this:

It is not ideal for structural uses or furniture that needs to withstand heavy use, as it is weak, not moisture resistant, and can be difficult to dry without warping.

Its practical uses are mostly limited to making crates, pallets, and paper pulp.

I do happen to know that around where I live in the greater Chicagoland area, it isn't even of practical use for firewood because very few people burn firewood at home and it can't be used for firewood for recreational camping because there are strictly enforced laws in the upper midwest prohibiting the transport of unlicensed firewood from one place to another due to concerns about the spread of highly contageous tree diseases like emerald ash border disease and others.

@hbarcat; Just some food for thought, but Major Seven might be on to something.

You could make basses out of the wood.

There is a Quebec business, Spalt King, that sells cottonwood-bodied instruments. (I was strongly considering one of their Jazz bodies, but someone else bought it, first.) It may be a long-shot, but you might be able to pick their brains on the subject.

My neighbors and I worked together on a few problems like this through the years. Everybody paid up and the problem got solved. I'm fortunate to have good neighbors, I guess.
