Interesting. I dunno why I'm so attracted to strat jack plates. It just seems like a cool way to mount into the body. I've also used them upside down like you have it, but I don't really see a reason for it on the back of the bass - unless you need the internal space for the jack.

As for the case - I've always been afraid of building the actual case because I know I can make it strong, but I don't know that I can make it strong and light both. But this might be a superb case for high expansion foam in a trash bag for custom fit inside the case.
