Where can I find a frickin EP G string, I order the top 3 strings and the g has been back ordered about 4 weeks now.

Double Bass Evah Pirazzi strings megathread part I

I thought about it, but at 3 times the price of the EPs its a hard sell, and also my local luthier said he really didnt recommend them, because I play everything and he said that they weren't real good jazz strings. Maybe this is his personal preference and not fact.

I can't believe I just read that. The Oliv D/G are fantastic Jazz strings.
I guess I was told wrong. are they good bowable strings too? and how would i match with the EPs in a set that would be Obligato E, EP D and G then Oliv G?

The Oliv set as a whole is a fantastic Arco set. It's more known for that than anything else. It just happens that the D and G are really great Jazz Pizz strings too. Their biggest drawback is they tend to fall apart to soon and they are too expensive to be buying them as regularly as they are reported to fall apart.
That's an interesting mix you are using. I assume you mean Obli E EP A and D and oliv G? I could see the oliv G working with the EP.
What I can't see is the Obli E working with that mix. How is that for you?
Oh, man, the luthier's got it all wrong. Oliv G &D are heavenly jazz strings, pizz or arco.

Yup, I think they're the very best Jazz G string out there. Good enough, I think, to make up for the high price and potential unreliability. The D, not so much. Still good, but there are better other Ds (such as the EP) by comparison to Gs, at much less cost.
I have had the Oliv D&G on now for about a year of hard work on mostly acoustic-only gigs and they're still in fine health. Oh, and they were bought pre-abused from the small-ads here, so they've got plently of miles on them. Los Angeles' mild climate and humidity swings might have something to do with that, though.
I've had the EP E&A on for nearly as long, and they too, while not remarkable in any respect, are so solidly competent that I've not messed with strings in all that time. I occasionally get tempted to put my Spiros back on the bottom, but there's been no need.
Like the Toadster I didn't get on with the Obli E at all, for me it would be too floppy and indistinct to match the EPs, and not last as long, either. I do know players who get on well with Oblis, though - some of them big names.

Sage words, even considering differences in instruments. The Obligato E will roll under your bow and will, most likely, not produce enough body to match the EPs or an Oliv G.
Were I in your position (and if you perform much with an amp) I'd save every penny on strings and replace that Peavey. It's not helping you with dynamism or color variation at all.

Well Right now I have a whole set of real old Oblis on, like 2 and a half years, and I bought the to 3 EP strings and the G is back ordered, so thats how the whole mix would end up. Man now you guys have given me all kinds of things to think about with what to do about the G.

I'll heed this warning, also Ive heard that the Olivs have issues with stability, where as the EPs, like the obligatos, deal with change well.

Boy that is the truth. That PV will make all those fantastic strings sound like junk. if you don't have to use an amp you'll be fine but if you use one on just about every gig like I do I wouldn't spend another dime on strings till I fixed that.
All the same, if you've already got the E/A/D of EP then go ahead and get the G string. They really do work best as a set vs. mix and match. Then don't change a thing until you've got a better amp.

Sorry I wasnt clear, I have Obligs all over right now I have in my possession the A and D EPs and the EP g is lost somewhere in backorder land. I dont use the Peavey much anymore, cause yeah it sucks pretty bad, now when I need to amp up I use this crate 1x10 that I borrow from the high school. It sounds ok, but actually reflects the sound of the bass pretty well.

Ah. I'd get the E and G Evahs and use the full set. I don't dig them on my bass but they are damn good strings. Sound amazing on bribass' Prescott. Really a good matched set that work better as a set than as single I think.

They do sound really good on that bass and very feel well balanced as the man said. As the E has now been well played on for a few months I believe it may be a bit floppier than it was, but not whimpy by any means.
I haven't separated them to see how they match up w/ other strings. Seems to me w/ the syn core 'n all, they may be too supple under the hand to feel right sitting next to all steel strings.
I do think I will experiment this week and put on Phil's Stark Spiro E he was kind enough to let me try. We'll see how that sits next to the other 3 EP's.
If I'm man enough for the Stark, next to it I plan on adding back a Spiro Mit A and D, and a Superflex G on the Prescott. I need the EP's back on my German bass for a travel arco gig.
I really do like the feel and sound of EP's, BUT;
Yesterday I just got in the mail the final mix of a Jazz CD I played on last year. The engineer captured perhaps the best recorded sound of my Prescott that I have to date. Hi's, lows, mids, beautiful round deffinition, just about everything I'd want from my sound. The strings?........
