Double Bass Evah Pirazzi strings megathread part I

I can't remember the last time I left strings on my bass for a year without any changes.
I would have done that with the Animas, if not for breakage and the fact that I personally sound like a wounded water buffalo when I try to bow them.
Sometimes I still toy with the idea of Spiros again next time around. But when I'm actually playing onstage, or when I listen to playbacks of the Evahs during a session, I realize that I'm on the right track. The sonic fatness of the upper strings and the arco response are just a couple of things I might find myself missing too much if I switched. So it's on to year two, since the EPs have really only gotten better for my purposes.

I think I am in the one year club too. can't remember for sure but I don't have any intention of switching yet.
So.... last night I played my first gig after my one year anniversary with EPs, and I think I was able to pin down my favorite aspect of the strings, the thing I would miss if I switched to something else. It's the front of the note. I played the last set unamplified, so that may be why I noticed it, since it's less apparent when the amp's on.
There's just a little "pop" at the beginning of each note that I've found addictive. I haven't gotten the same effect from any other string so far. I think it may be the one thing that will keep me going back to these strings. I also really like the amount of damping that they have; they have nice sustain, but not that real growly giant fretless bass thing. Each note has a nice little life of its own. I find that to be a really natural sound for me at this point. And the overall balance of the set is just right for me.
I also realized.... I have got to play unamplified more often.

Ok fine. I'll try my set on my new bass at some point here. See if I can get into them for a few months.

I gave them 30 minutes with the crappy setup. I'm about to get it back with proper bridge post etc. so who knows.
....He's got Dominants on the top strings anyhow.
I find it kind of funny that Marcus is saying they're "OK" with the bow. Aren't they arco strings? I was hoping to try these next, but they need to bow as well as the BCs I've been using this year . . .

.... I love the arco response of the Evahs. Whether they're as good or better than the BCs for arco, I couldn't tell you... never tried 'em.
I don't think of these as arco strings, aren't they marketed as hybrids? They don't bow as nice as flex's 92's but much better than spiro's. I like the arco tone of the Evah's quite a bit. And I love the ping that Marcus describes at the front of the note with pizz. I have been playing spiro reds on my travel EUB and they were on the real bass at a jam session I played last night. I like the spiro's a lot, but I l miss the Evah's darker percussive edge.
I think that if the belcanto's are anything like the flex 92's you could adjust to the arco of the Evah's quite easily and then have a more usable pizz sound to go with it.

Well, I should get my brand spankin' new set of EPs next week, after a year of BC's. I hope they have the feel of the Bel Cantos, which I really like, but a little bit more power/presence (esp. Pizz). We'll see.
Flexocores are too dark for my bass.

Well, since all the cool kids are doing it, curiousity got the best of me.
Put a used set on tonight and have been playing off and on the last 2 hours. Unfortunately, the E string is ruined (broken in 4 places where it wrapped around someones tuning peg) so I took it off and put back on the innovation H E string.
The A string is a winner. Absolute cannon pizz and arco. D is pretty decent as well. Good attack, gut like bounce on the front of the note. Not metallic.
I'm not sold on the G. It is very tense for a synthetic, much more than the rest of the set. Huge difference from the Innovations. The sound is however, very good. I'm not sure how I will like crossing strings onto this one...such a difference in feel between the D & G.
I could see an Oliv G (oh no, gut again!!
) being really nice with this.

Don't make me start talking about Olivs again - nobody wants that
Suffice to say, when my present Olivs fail and I have to put new strings on my Juzek they'll be EPs with an Oliv G.
With my almost a year experience with EPs on the bottom end I'm confident about those - I just can't give up the 'Best G Ever!'

Hi! I have a new bass and I've found on it a E & A Evah Pirazzi and D & G Belcanto, I like the sound but I feel very different tension so I'll start experimenting on this!
I can't find the tension for Evah Pirazzi, do you have some precise information on it?
Do you think they are eavier than Spirocore Mittel?
I feel a lot of tension on Evah Pirazzi, maybe Mittel E & A are more close in tension to Belcanto D & G?

While the Evahs may be stiffer than the BCs, they will settle in, as do the Obligatos, and become more user friendly. After a couple of weeks of steady playing, you should see them being nice and punchy with plenty of grab and great tone for arco. Based on what others have said, I can't see them being a great blend with BCs. Only time will tell on that count for your bass. I have the full set on my Kolstein and it's exactly what I've been needing for both sides of the equation. Invalid Link Removed
