That's funny, everything you mentioned the evah regulars have provided for me. Balanced, loud (very), beefy tension and strong fundamental with good articulation - either pizz or arco. Certainly a compromise string compared to flexocor (smooth) and spirocore (raw), but I'm happy with them. They've actually warmed up a bit over the last year as well.

Sure I can see that depending on the bass. Others warned me that EP regulars would be too high tension. I found the opposite. My Cleve isn't like that at all. String it with Spiro mitts and you'll find that it doesn't have much tension and most strings that work well start to sound good with it in the first couple of days. My EUB could use a darker string so I'll prob try it later. EPs would probably work on my old Chrissy but I put that baby up for sale.

Yeah, sometimes 3 days is enough if you know your instrument. I've done that type of thing before with my old bass and going back to the string didn't really yield different results. As far as the EPs go, every day it got darker and duller. On the first day, the E&A had that nice bassy bloom to it. Gone by the 2nd or 3rd day. Woulda kept them on if that kept going even if it wasn't that loud. You start to get a little suspicous after trying so many strings when something sounds great right out of the box. I have a sound in my head I'm trying to match. EPs ain't it.

Funny thing, I was basing much of my purchasing decision on Herve Jeanne's sound matrix and found that it was a poor choice to base it on. I guess my bass is not much like his. The sound of Spiro mitts on my bass is similar to his, but the EPs are totally different. Just goes to show, you don't know til you try.

Has anyone switched from the mediums to the lights? I play about 50/50 pizz/arco and love the EP regulars that I have. I am having a bit of left hand pain in the upper register after 3-4 hour practice sessions. My current teacher thought thinner string might help, but I wanted to see if the lights function just as well as a hybrid string?

Yes, I even tried the solos tuned down. The Meds just wore me out after 6 months. The weichs work much easier and are great strings, too. The solos weren't bad, but the G string was hard to play in tune in thumb position.

So, right now I'm playing on with a permanent D and G with a spirocore E and A. I really like the power that this set delivers, but I'm kind of wanting more growl (pizz.) out of the D an G. I'm wondering if a full set of either the Evah regulars or the Weichs would do this without a compromise in power.

had some EP regs on my bass for a week now. love them! but I don't get the "high tension" thing people say. they feel very medium-light to me. but I love everything about 'em. volume. tone. tuning's a bitch but as it wears in it's been getting easier. arco tone is incredible. makes me practice classical more since it's so much easier to start the string.

although deep down I still want to try some eudoxas or chordas. <_<

I have had the weichs on for a few weeks now. I haven't notice much difference in the sound at all, but did notice the tension difference. Had a one hour lesson followed by 3 hour rehearsal and left hand is doing just fine.

Has anyone switched out the G string for something else and been happy with how it sits in the mix of strings. Both the regulars and lights G string has a twangy and scratchiness under the bow.

The Oliv G is a marvelous string, but it is relatively high tension. It matches very well with the regular Evahs, and with Spiro mittels, but I have found it a little unbalanced both in volume, tension and diameter with Spiro weichs.

I'm disappointed to hear that the Evah weich G is twangy - I would love to find a string that is thinner, lighter and more flexible that the Oliv, but with a similar sound. I haven't found one yet, so at this point Oliv it is.

On the other hand the Evah regular G was pretty close on my bass once it had settled in (but it was still more tension than I'd like), so maybe the weich G would work for me.

I know, I've got to spend the money and try the Weichs out myself. :rolleyes:

I have EP regulars on the E, A and D and a Flexocor on the G (one of the old ones with the ruby wrapping). It makes for an extremely nice arco set on my bass, and I switched the G for exactly the reason you mention. Oddly enough, the Flexocor G is a great pizz string as well, coming across as a little clearer and more agile than the EP G. This was a surprise to me, but you never know until you try it!

I put this G string on my bass, which at the time had its original strings, a full set of D'A Helicore Hybrid Mediums, and I really like it. I would like to try some others - once I know that this is, if anyone has an single strings or a used set of these, please let me know via steve _dot_ freides at g mail dot com - or a PM here but that will take me a little longer to respond to.

Sounds like a Pirastro Evah Pirazzi 'G' string! Does it have green silks with a black twist at the tailpiece and kinda coffee-coloured silk at the capstan? The Weichs have a rose coloured ring in the peg-box.

I picked up a used set of EP weichs here on TB for my Epiphone. So far, I really like the tone and feel...and bowing is okay, too. Most of my playing on the Epi is pizz for blues or Realbook jazz...these strings are a good fit to both settings.

Green at the bottom, tan where they go into the tuning machines.

I looked online at all the different strings the company makes and didn't know if perhaps I was overlooking something on the packaging - are these just "medium" or do these even come in different tensions?
