Give them another try. I don't understand the mindset that the mediums are really hard. Yes they are higher tension than the weich. They feel the same on my bass as spiro mediums set at the same action (maybe 6mm off the fingerboard). unless you are using gut strings or Velvets I don't think taking strings on and off is such a bad thing.
Perhaps it is bass-dependent. Evah regulars on my bass felt nothing like the Spiro mitts feel. For all their power, for me, the Evah regulars were like playing on bridge cables. That was with the E about 10 mm off the board. The Evah weichs were far more reasonable but even those caused far more right-hand fatigue. They actually seemed to stiffen with age, and effect others reported as well. In fact, it was while digging into the Evah weichs that I ripped the sagittal band in my right hand. I had fallen into the habit of two-finger play on the E string. Bad habit! After I recovered and was cleared to return to playing (with a brace), the bass was wearing Spiro mitts with the heights set low. I eventually tossed the brace and raised the strings back up. One day, I trialed the Evah weichs again. Beautiful, intoxicating fundamentals... but... quickly tired my right hand. Back to Spiro mitts and stayed that way for years right up to now. YMMV.
