Eventide H9

I think Crushstation sounds pretty good, but for reasons I don't understand at all, it's far quieter engaged than my bypassed tone. So I have to boost the pre-preset signal level. Which works but kind of sucks.

I have to correct my last post regarding the Crushstation. I just tried it solo. As soon as I play in a band context you are right: it lacks in volume. I had a hard time hearing myself without changing the output level. But with the new routing options and the possibility to save the volume settings in presets not so much of a problem. Still like it a lot and considering that it is free...

it's nice that they add features people request, the routing options are boss, but c'mon. it is insulting and ridiculous that there is no Android app for the H9 yet. i have been spamming their FB page whenever i think to about that.

makes the things near useless in all the ways they're better than other multis.

i do. and it is a HUGE pain to wire stuff up at practice when i want to tweak a tone. when i had an iphone the H9 was perfect in so many ways. now it's a clunky thing with hidden goodness, useless to try anything spontaneous with.

i'm sure they have some contract or deal with Apple, but it has made me look for alternarives to my two H9's.

I forget and haven't tried, but can you do Bluetooth with a laptop?

I doubt it's about contracts or deals. Lots of places just do iOS development, I hear Android development is like the Wild West, for better or worse. Sucks if you prefer Android, but I don't think it's more nefarious than that.

I kind of understand your frustration. I could hardly imagine to use the H9 without the app. Can't even remember when I last touched the H9. I have an iPhone and two iPads and nearly use it exclusively with an iPad. Even the iPhone 6 screen is too small. Wouldn't a cheap windows tablet be a solution for you or a used previous generation iPad mini for < 200,-?

I guess I'm the opposite then. I have absolutely no problem navigating and adjusting my H9 hardware and I'm totally annoyed at having to go find my stupid iPad and deal with stupid Bluetooth in order to do maintenance on it. The DSP and algorithms on the H9 totally overshadow the fact that it requires a hierarchical interface on a single line display. But I grew up programming drum machines, sequencers, and rack units with single line displays.

Still, they even make it easy for you to adjust things on the fly while you're jamming via the hot buttons/wheel. Learn it, use it, then it's fast and easy.

I don't like my board to be dependent on some cheesy phone app no matter what the OS. The H9 is a solid stand alone device imo.

Never had to find my stupid iPad...

jia. i feel you. and it's awesome you're so comfy with menu diving.

but i bought it and spent so much on algos mainly BECAUSE of the interface optipns. never realized how limiting it (for me at least) would be without an iDevice, and they should have an optipn avaliable for Android users.

Are any of you guys using expression pedals with you H9? Here's the H9 being used with the Reflex Universal Expression Pedal from Source Audio...

This was posted on the Eventide forum, but since it is relavent to the Reflex, I thought this would be a good place to share it.

First of all, my typo above regarding use of the audio / logarithmic taper (still recommended for use with Eventide pedals).

Secondly: Connection of Reflex pedal to the both PitchFactor and the H9 is working just fine at default DIP switch settings. Chalk it up to "newbie" user error, and a somewhat cryptic interface reflected in the Reflex three-digit display. I've heard that there's a Windows app for the Reflex on the horizon, and that should help to clarify current settings. To sum up:

  • H9 / PitchFactor can use default DIP switch settings.
  • All three Reflex outputs (even 50K ohms) work with Eventide pedals.
  • Each output (+ 3 MIDI Channels and Sensor Out) are configured independently.
  • Audio / logarithmic - not linear - taper works best with Eventide pedals.
  • The LFO expression - or- MIDI outputs need only be adjusted to taste.
  • Remember to SAVE a preset after any kind of adjustment to any of the configurations.
  • And always fasten your seatbelt before driving this combination.

I have a question regarding the iOS-App: Whenever I leave the app to use another app and activate it again, it seems to kind of start again or lose its former configuration. Sometimes, it just starts with another algorithm or changes the settings of the algorithm I used before. Is this normal behaviour?
For example I use a specific algorithm with specific settings, then I change to another app - for example to change the drum pattern in the drum-app I use and then I go back to the H9 app. While I'm still playing as soon as the H9 app window is active again from one second to the next, the settings of the effect are changed or sometimes another effect becomes active.
As much as I love the H9 this is the main reason I don't use it live.
