Get a couple beers in me and I loosen up so I can groove really well. I enjoy playing a ton when I've had a couple beers. Any more and I start to feel really lazy and sloppy.

Ever been too drunk to play?!

No, I haven't been too drunk to play (at a show). Even though I consume alcohol with a mind for my short-term obligations, I have been drunk enough to play below my normal ability. Not earth-shatteringly bad, but with an extra clam or two. I've recently screwed up an entire song pretty horribly while in cahoots with the drummer, but that was due to lack of practice, not alcohol.
The current band does drink pretty hard, by my standards, but even they keep it to a dull roar. I can only think of once that one of the guitarists got drunk enough to start a song with a completely wrong guitar part, five times in a row. The song starts with his guitar playing the intro solo. He'd start playing the intro to the other song, everyone would look at me (I was closest to him). I'd stop him, and say "We're not playing La Muerte te Sigues, we're playing Drums. He'd nod, and start the wrong song again. The sixth time, it clicked. It was a 4pm bill. Even he agreed that was excessive, and we haven't done that again.

Yeah, I guess the guy let loose and started sliding around on the bench and fell over backward during the song, covered in poop.

I would never do that before a show, people pay their hard earned money to see you but i have seen a couple burnouts in Atlanta do it. Funny but sad at the same time.
Drummer and Guitarist got so drunk they pretty much botched an entire set one time. worst that I've done was throwing up in my mouth halfway thru the second to last song.
I played in a cover band where drinking with the patrons was pretty much required.
One time I drank too many tequila shots between sets and was too drunk to play cleanly.
I had to play extra hard to keep it together and everybody just thought I was rocking harder than usual that night.
I learned my lesson.

I only ever got too drunk at a gig once. The bar we were playing had dollar pitchers till 10:00, so the drummer and I thought it would be a great idea to line the back of the stage with them.
By the third set we were wrecked. Caught hell for it from the bandmates the next day, never did it again. Now I don't even drink at all.
My weakness is the green stuff. Never been a hindrance to my playing, though, because after the drunk gig I learned my lesson. I also have grown to love playing music so much that that has become my high of choice.

Yeah, but when you have to load in at 7 PM and hang out in a bar until your set at midnight, it happens surprisingly easily.
Been playing clubs since I was 18. Drank for a year or two when I turned 21. Got miserably drunk one night and have never had a drink since the early 70's. Did a gig in The Netherlands in the 90's where some really strong herb was provided. That was the only time I had a problem playing.
Nope. I was taught very early on that it is not professional to be impaired in any way! I just won't do it. I have played with many folks who do. I just quit a band who has a BL that gets drunk every gig. Plus, I have to drive after the gig! Not my thing. Sorry!

Seen plenty of gtr players do that, though.
I may get a little loose, but never hammered.
On stage: strictly biz, it's always just 2 beers through the night, and a lot of water.
Tough doing vox with a buzz on.
Now THC was a different story.
Turns out I'm highly allergic.
(Must have been all the conspicuous consumption in years past)
After waking up in the hospital for the third time, wasn't given a choice but to quit.
Had a hard time convincing friends and sundry
that I couldn't go out to the P-lot and burn one anymore.
Played in a couple coke-head bands. Thought I was having a freakin' heart attack a couple times.
Quit THAT stuff many moons ago.
Now I just smoke a lot of backwoods cigars, which probably isn't good for me, either.

I played in a few punk bands in the late 70's and there were afew times I was so drunk i had to lay down and play my bass..........but that kind of fit with the image in those days. Thankfully I have been on the wagon now for 14 years this August the 6th.
