Ever been too drunk to play?!

Not since I was 19 or so. We were in a battle of the bands for a record contract and were told we were on at 7:00pm. That was changed to 11:00. A few pitchers of beer each later and a few trips to the parking lot left the entire band blasted by the time we took the stage.

We lost the competition to a 8 year old girl.

Not fun. I couldn't even figure out how to tune my bass.

Been plenty drunk plenty of times, sometimes enough where my playing suffered but I don't remember a time where I was so drunk I physically couldn't, but a few times where I probably shouldn't have.

I did play a gig on a few doses of LSD once. It was a multiband thing at a big outdoor party. We played our set and then it was a freeform jam thing after that with a bunch of different players sitting in, etc. Turns out I was the only bassplayer there so I never left the stage all night.

Oddly, people were later telling me (people who were not tripping) that it was the best they'd ever heard me, never knew I could play like that, blew everybody away, etc.........I don't remember a single note of it. Too bad nobody rolled tape so I could go back and learn my own stuff. :)

That's funny (kids, stay in school and don't do drugs!:D).

Reminds me of the pro baseball player that pitched a Major League game on acid..... And threw a no hitter. He said his recollection of the game is cloudy at best.

You know .. The op just asked ever been too drunk to play.... Simple.. I don't think anybody has been proud about drunken antics.. They happen..... Beginners and pros alike , But you have to hear from those that "wouldn't even pour alcohol on strings" :(

A couple of times in my youth. I quit drinking in 1973 and haven't had anything stronger than Diet Coke since. After two tours in Viet Nam I had a drinking problem until I wised up and quit.

I have been too drunk to play many, many times :) But I have NEVER been drunk when I HAD to play. Probably more nerves than an iron clad devotion to respecting the gig, but I absolutely always respected the gig as well.

Rewind to about 10 years ago. Having a party at our guitarists house and drinking heavily. We decide to go out in the practice area and play some tunes for the guests. I was playing an Ovation Magnum at the time (pretty heavy bass). I turn around too quickly and lose my balance and finished the song on my back with the roof spinning. I don't remember much after that. (Wife was driving and sobor, thought I'd add that)

"Ever been too drunk to play?! "

Hmm..probably, but I did it anyway.
;)

Same here. Many a night I was drunk and should'nt have played. But that was all a very long time ago. These days if I drink a six pack of anything in a years time I consider that to be heavy drinking.

I play two sets at a local club on Thursdays and my drink of choice is ice water.
