Ever do something so incredibly stupid...

Me being nervous on stage:
A song in our set ends with me rolling volume off to fade out. I pause in between for a sip of beer, and next song starts. Meanwhile I forget to turn my volume back on and I didn't realize it! Band plays through song while I'm on stage panicking about my signal, frantically checking my amp and my cables, everything but the obvious answer. It took me an entire song of being out to realize what happened.

Needless to say - it was hard to get back into the gig after that happened on second song. I just wanted to leave and bury my head! :hiding:

I've done this before, definitely. At least I had the DI on my board.

We played a private party in a huge garage out in the country. I was the first of the band to arrive.

Lots of guests were already there, but luckily there was a place to park right next to the front door. The weather was nice so I just unloaded my gear onto the sidewalk there and waited for rest of the band.

A car soon pulled up next to me and parked. At my request, the guy very kindly agreed to move, so the band could load in easier. I mentioned that a lot of people had parked on the other side, so that's where he parked, too.

As he walked past me and my piled up gear on the sidewalk, I thanked him once more for moving his car and he said no problem.

Then he walked in and the guests all roared "Surprise!"

...and bass related, that you couldn't admit it to anyone. I did.

What's the dumbest bass/music related thing you've ever done. Maybe if someone tops me I'll spit mine out.

I'll get the ball rolling with this, the 2nd dumbest bass related thing I did. Sold a 75 P bass about 8 or 9 years ago for $200. The neck was slightly warped so I figured it was worthless.

Don't feel bad...I bought a '76 Precision for $100 about 12 years ago, so someone did even worse than you!! :D

In high school back in the late 70's, I trade 1 oz of an illicit yet popular green leafy plant of rather crappy quality for a....
1964 Fender Jazzmaster guitar in almost mint condition- painted headstock to boot. Good move...

I decided to refinish it...myself... bad move.

I let some numbnuts use my gear at a show because his sucked...amp never really sounded the same after that (this was a long time ago.)

Then about a year ago I let the bass player of a friend's band play on MY SR5 because his bass was dead, knobs rattling, gouges everywhere, etc. He didn't wreck it, but I watched him step the cord of three times (wrap thru the strap dummy) and play 5 songs on it out of tune.

I accidentally messed with a soundguy's mind when my sound on stage was great, but there was nothing coming thru the monitors. He tried a new cable, and was frantically checking things on the board when I realized my DI output volume was almost all the way down.

Oops.

I picked up my Smith bass one day and it was fretting out like mad. I immediately jumped in my car and drove 50 miles to a repair shop and dropped it off to have it adjusted. When I arrived home there was a message on the answering machine,

"Yes, I've looked at your bass and it's tuned a step flat. I tuned it up for you. There's nothing wrong with it. Sorry, but I still have to charge you the $40 bench fee."
