Ever have an ocular migraine?

Reading through these posts, seems there are different versions of this. Mine are just zigzag distortions in revolving ring surrounding central vision, but I can still see clearly what is in center. I've never felt pain.
Yeah.
There seems to be two types.
An ocular migraine and a migraine with aura.
Two different things.

The ones I have(had)have never been painful.
Just a small blind spot that has prismatic scintillating zigzags.
Which go away after a short while.
There was never any headache or dizziness.

I first started having them in '88 while in the Navy.
Then not until 2005 or so.
Then they started back up.
I looked up the symptoms on my computer and discovered what it was.

I get these. About one every month or so. They last about 30 minutes maximum.

Recently I decided to go to a neurologist. I went and got an MRI and everything. Basically it’s stress. What from, I have no idea. But it is stress related.

Kinda odd. I have little stress in my life. Things go great and everything is sort of swell. I mean yeah…there’s politics and all but personally i don’t get the stress bit. Why?

The neurologist had nothing specific. Bummer.

Same reply when i had my stroke. Stress. But i was not in a stressful moment, and have no aggravating factors in my way of life. No cigarets, alcohol, salt excess, good sleep. Unaware interior stress ? Will never know. Or perhaps we have to wait for new science discovering. Neurologist just told me about this study that has demonstrated a link of aggravating stroke risk with aura migraine for women, and was in studying progress for men. That was 8 years ago.

I went through a period of having them fairly regularly. Although in my case I'd see a bright flash of light, followed by colors, then I'd lose sight in one eye for about 15 minutes. The first time it happened I was pretty freaked out, but then I got used to it. If I saw the flash when driving (which I was doing a lot back then), I'd pull over and wait for one eye to lose and regain sight.

Then it stopped. I don't know why. I still get regular migraines and such, though.

I also occasionally had auditory hallucinations, particularly when in grad school. Nothing really unpleasant. The most common one was like a Native American chant that sounded quite nice. That stopped, too.

I think these mostly occurred during high-stress, little-sleep periods.

I have had them fairly often over the last five years. Lately perhaps 1-2 times per week. Sometimes I don’t have one for a month.

Usually there is no headache, if it does happen it is mild. I do notice that often I feel slightly nauseous and low emergy after one.

I get the colorful jagged stuff as well as a black hole at the focal point in both eyes. Sometimes the black holes are bigger than others. Always in both eyes.

Years ago I had a loss of vision in one eye, loss of sensation in half my body, and a subsequent headache which had me in bed for two days. Because of that, when I notice the aura stuff, I take four advil liquicaps immediately to help ward of any potential headache.

I had not had any kind of aura or migraine for probably two decades, then they came back. I remember looking over at my co-worker, and wondering “why is there a black spot where Jakob’s face is supposed to be?” I recognized it pretty quickly and munched a bunch of ibuprofen.

Pro tip: in Canada, Germany, and prolly some other places, they sell 400mg ibuprofen. I always pick up some extras when in those places.

Yes, but not so much lately.

I’ve learned to avoid the main triggers of these nasty buggers. Avoid looking at bright lights or sharp reflective surfaces for too long. Driving in the afternoon can be tricky with the sun bouncing of all the cars.

Another trigger is going from bright sunlight to dim or dark back and forth. Argh!

When I feel one coming on, all I can do is cease whatever activity I’m doing and close my eyes for about 15 minutes or so. I’ll still get the headache, but no more rainbow squigglys.
