Ever seen a dead Jaguar?

Actually this IS an option.

If you deal directly with USPS- tell them that MF no longer has any in stock and that you need to get it sent to Fender to get it fixed as it is rare (California .... or if you want to be a purist about it.... Japan). They will give you a cheque for the amount that the bass is insured for- as the sale price will be less than the total cost of repairs and shipping. One thing to remember is that USPS do not pay anything for this- their insurance company does. ;)

This happened to me last year. I had an Aguilar speaker USPSed to Australia and it was dropped in transit. I went for gold and told them I would need to get it replaced with an Aguilar cone shipped from New York then installed locally. I sent them research in costings and local prices- a new speaker was the cheapest option for them. 1 week later I get a cheque for price of the Aggy. I also get a call from the speaker repair guy telling me that it wasn't as bad as he originally thought. :ninja:

I didn't know that it could work that way...wonder if it'll work for UPS too. I'm curious as to what value MF insured it for. We'll see what management says...

Dayyyyyyyy-ummmmmmmmmmm! Sorry dude but that puppyshould be back in the mail 2morrow! get that guy and paypal (please say you used paypal) on the phone and get to collecting your $$.

It was from Musicians' Friend, paid with a credit card. Getting the money back isn't an issue, but I'm tracking down a new bass.

appalling! good luck finding that new jag (meow).

a friend of mine had a run in with UPS... he shipped his computer from his school in atlanta to boston, and had them store it (or something). anyway when he went to ups to pick it up they told him "sorry. it's been incinerated" no joke! they literally said that.

A bass I ordered from MF came in similiar condition - neck sheared off. MF took the return and sent a replacement, no problems.

It was double boxed, and the bass had a pretty stout neck. It would have taken a tremendous amount of force to "accomplish" that damage, like dropping the box from a six-story building.

That's horribly sad.

Having dealt with UPS in the past, their policy has been that your item has to be packaged such that it can handle a 10 foot drop on to concrete. I don't know too many items that can really handle that. Also, they set ridiculously low limits on the insured value of an item.

I truly dislike UPS. It's like a protection racket with the insured value "You could pay a little extra. I'd hate to see something UNFORTUNATE happen." I've had too many items destroyed by them. All they're really guaranteeing is that the remains of your package will get there. Getting any money out of them for their incompetence is a real uphill battle.

I mean really - a ten foot drop on to a concrete floor? "I'm sorry, our policy clearly states..."
